hart.gif (13472 bytes) STEVE HART was born at South Wangaratta in 1859. He was described as possessing a sullen temper and was easily ruffled. But he was also known to be an excellent horseman. He later became a friend of Dan Kelly and followed him into the Wombat Ranges.
JOE BYRNE was born in Beechworth in 1857. He was Ned's lieutenant and helped plan the raids committed by the Kelly Gang. Due to his association with the Chinese community who lived near his parents home, he spoke fluent Cantonese and was also a heroin addict. Joe also help write and draught much of the literature sent by the gang, including the Cameron and Jerilderie Letters He also wrote many ballads about the gang's exploits and was a brilliant marksman with a sidearm.   byrne.gif (13385 bytes)
dan.gif (15601 bytes) DAN KELLY was the youngest boy of the Kelly family. Dan was seventeen when he joined his brother Ned in the bush after the Fitzpatrick incident. He was very much in the shadow of Ned, even though his mother claimed that he would have made a better general, and followed his older brother until his demise at Glenrowan.

TOM LLOYD junior was a cousin and close friend of Ned Kelly’s. At the time of the police shooting at Stringybark Creek he would most likely have been involved had he not gone to town to cash in the gold and fetch supplies. He was a staunch sympathizer and scouted for the Gang. After the demise of the Kelly Gang he had a de-facto relationship with Ned’s sister Margaret and they had eleven children. Following Maggie’s death in 1898, Tom married Rachael Hart, Steve Hart’s youngest sister.
