'nuances'
– a shade of expression, meaning, feeling or the like
Sydney artists Carolyn Jones &
Lee Meskin come together with their own personal interpretations
of ‘nuances’. Their painted
imagery celebrates the subtleties of life often overlooked by
individuals in our ever increasing pace of life.
This recent body of work by Carolyn
Jones,
her second exhibition at the Washhouse, continues to explore the
timeless beauty of ‘vessels’ – placed poetically on a ‘tableau’,
within a café, restaurant or domestic environment. The ‘tableau’
often
disregarded as mundane, understated or irrelevant & yet it provides
the ambience of a space - a place for us to unwind or embrace
friendships.
Ponder each ‘tableau’, the delicate balance of line
& forms, the compositional placement of a single ‘vessel’ or a
gathering of a collection of ‘bowls’, which evoke a meditative response
of calm or serenity – the ‘nuances’ of emotions. She looks for
the
simplicity in the chaos, looking to reduce forms to their essence, to
capture a sense of place, time and continuity.
Colours awaken emotions in all of us; therein lies one’s own
interpretation of ‘Nuances’– in her work Lee Meskin
reveals her own mask, bringing a multitude of concepts to life on
canvas. Share Lee’s Renaissance with her, as she unmasks herself within
her paintings and explores the ‘dynamics of colour’, symbolic of the
various ‘Chakras’ of the body. Be they spiritual, emotional,
imaginative or physical - in that the body shall only venture to where
the mind and heart have! Thus Lee’s journey continues as she immerses
herself more deeply into the Australian Culture, clearly reflected
through the ‘splashes of colour’ in her work with each piece taking on
a life of its own.
A revelation of colour and texture; the transfer of thought and energy
from mind to canvas: Lee
Meskin……..The ‘Nuances of Colour’
