Reviewer & reader comments on Bob Carter’s Climate: the Counter Consensus

In this gem of a book … Carter drives an Aussie road train through the red dust of deliberate obfuscation and misrepresentation that is the hallmark of IPCC reports and other climatic claptrap. This is an enthralling book, a sunrise of calm analysis and penetrating good sense – John Dyson (Amazon UK).

Surely … one of the most important rigorously scientific, responsible and level-headed reviews of literature relevant to the whole [AGW] debate yet published … a pivotally important book – Christopher Cooper (Amazon UK).

What an excellent book: clear and concise in every way. All of the various tricky subjects were covered and all reasonable questions asked and answered – John Wellock (Amazon UK).

Just been reading … Climate the Counter Consensus  – and it’s a cracker. By the end, you’re left feeling … that the scientific case against AGW is so overwhelming that you wonder how anyone can still speak up for so discredited a theory without dying of embarrassment - James Delingpole (Telegraph.co.UK).

Professor Bob Carter has written the best book on the science of human-induced global warming I have read. It’s a very significant book. It will save countless lives. It will also save trillions of dollars in resources, natural human and physical … That’s the waste that would otherwise be driven by the endless climate change bureaucracy and the massive costs inherent in climate change policy designed to upend society and stifle industrial processes and progress….. [Carter] clearly loves and respects science. It comes through in every page. The best investment you can make in your country and your future is to buy a hundred copies of Bob’s book to send a copy to everyone you know who is half smart and who you know can make a difference – Rodney Hide (Leader, ACT Party, and N.Z. Minister for Local Government).

[The book is] an absolute gem and should be in every library and school in the world - Dr. Hamish Campbell (Te Papa, National Museum of New Zealand).

Professor Carter has worked, taught and studied in this field [palaeoclimatology] for 40 years. It is refreshing to read a book from someone who has worked at the coalface – W. Fletcher (Amazon UK).

Carter takes a scalpel to the so-called facts of ‘global warming’ that are churned out and unquestioningly accepted …. [his] book typifies the mission of the Independent Minds series, namely to replace political correctness and received-  wisdom with common sense and rational analysis – Philip Stott (The Clamour of the Times).

Bob Carter's new book …. is excellent from every perspective. He uses gripping language and is very precise in everything, covering the whole range of issues from the science through the social and economic implications to the fraudulent behaviour of AGW people – Dr. John Nicol (retired physicist, James Cook University).

Bob Carter ….. has an extraordinary capacity to present well-researched and referenced science in a way that the layman can understand – Roger Helmer (EuroMP, UK East Midlands).

Magnificent! Would that all politicians, and some so-called academics, would both read and understand what’s really going on – Emeritus Prof. David Bowen (Cardiff University, pers.comm.)

The book is an amazing tour de force of information and commentary regarding the full scope of climate change science, climate modeling and climate change policy. …. (It) is must reading for policy makers, scientists and those who simply want to understand why more and more scientists have become either skeptical of, or are discarding, the hypothesis of Anthropogenic Global Warming – R. Burtner (Amazon USA).

... For those interested in the scientific discussion (as opposed to the emotional and political one) it is an absolute must-read
Professor Jan de Ruiter (Amazon USA).

… Written with startling clarity and insight …. succinct and surprisingly humorous given the dark nature of global warming hysteria. [The] explanation of the null hypothesis is beautifully crafted and should be taught in schools around the worldKirk Cummings (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada)

... thoroughly informative, easy to read and enjoyable – Eric Kwiatkowski (U.K.)

… an erudite exposition of well thought out science. Exceptionally clearly stated, and referenced, and the science developed with impeccable logic and rationale. An excellent read, and should become a reference book for all environmentalists – Imarcus (Amazon UK).

Professor Carter demonstrates a rare combination of talents - an accomplished researcher who writes lucidly. He fluidly takes the reader through the entire sordid mess of what has become generally accepted climate science and he does it in a clever way…. It is difficult to briefly summarize this well researched, well written, dispassionate analysis except to state that the public may have been better served if the members of the InterAcademy Council investigating the IPCC [had] read Climate: The Counter Consensus before issuing their report – Ken Haapala (SEPP).

A great read, well presented, and strictly factual and without any of the hyperbole so often seen from the [climate] alarmist camp Keith Moore (Amazon UK).

I have read several books on the subject of global warming …. and this is the best. An excellent book written by someone well qualified but it is easily understood by a layman – Neil Stuart (Amazon UK).

Climate: the Counter Consensus is one of the best books I have ever read (and I have read a lot) – Professor Antero Jarvinen (Director, Kilpisjarvi Biological Station, University of Helsinki).

Carter's book provides an up-to-date and informed guidance to the scientific criticism of the climate catastrophe hypothesis, and it is an essential contribution to the debate – Emeritus Professor Roland Granqvist (Vasterbottens-Kuriren, Sweden).

This book was for me a revelation, and a vindication of all those people who have questioned manmade global warming …. ALL [the books in the Independent Minds series] should be made available in schools and libraries so that everyday folk and children can begin to see how they are being brainwashed - CJ (Amazon UK).

A well-written account of much of the deep corruption of our scientific inheritance which has been central to spread of this [AGW] fantasy – Ray Evans (Secretary, Lavoisier Society; Quadrant).

… a thoughtful and scholarly work of science …. informative, educational and devoid of the usual spin. A must read for anyone interested in the science of climate change. THANK YOU! Prof. Carter – Stephen (Amazon UK).

presents a level headed argument for the problems facing the planet and exposes the media/government generated hysteria surrounding the debate – Gerald Beesley (MSc, DIC Geology).

… here is a book that really does deserve the usual publisher phrases such as ‘tour de force’, ‘essential reading’ and so on …. What this book does is provide the perfect case study of reason and argument in practice. ....  – Martin Cohen (The Philosopher, Oct. 2010).

Carter …. Is able to write about science in a way that is easily understandable to most of us.  .. Climate: The Counter Consensus is an important book which convincingly refutes Al Gore’s declaration that ‘the time for debate is over’. It is not, thanks to people like Bob Carter – Vaclav Klaus (President of the Czech Republic; The Spectator Australia, October 23, 2010).

A thorough analysis of the hypothesis of anthropogenic global warming. ….This splendid book should be required reading for anyone interested in the climate debate – Dr. Phil Playford (former Director, Geological Survey of West Australia).

Professor Bob Carter’s new book examining the science behind global warming is both timely and welcome. …. Carter is not a climate-change denier…. The real issue, he sees, is to manage natural climate change, with the challenges that entails. …. This is an important book, written by a highly qualified climate scientist for a general audience. It should be read by everyone with an interest in the climate change issue – Peter Westmore (CEC News Weekly, Oct. 16, 2010).

It should be made instantly available in every school (especially in the UK) but of course that is unlikely – Colin Southgate (retired engineer, Newark, UK).

[the] book is excellent - EVERY politician and policymaker should HAVE to read it before making decisions in this area. … summarises all the problems with the whole ‘human caused global warming’ agenda in a reasoned and understandable style - get your copy today - and give one to your MP! – Jenny (of Melbourne).

Climate: The Counter Consensus is one of the very best expositions of both the science and the politics of climate change yet written. It can serve as an outstanding introduction to the issue of climate change, and as an accurate and up to date summary of the latest research … The range of scholarship that Professor Carter has mastered is astonishing. The language is clear and simple, but never over-simplified – John Roskam (Director, Institute of Public Affairs, Melbourne).

… if more people (would read this book), they would be less easily manipulated around this issue. It gives you great background and the history of our climate, the evidence against the theory of human induced climate change, including recently published material that refutes some of the bizarre, almost superstitious claims that get made. … Carter is …. absolutely qualified to speak on this issue, rational and with a gift for communicating the complex in an easy to understand way. His book should be mandatory reading for all those in media who report on this issue, and the pollies who also keep sprouting nonsense, but don’t know it. Or, perhaps they do… - lmwd (The Conservative, Dec. 28, 2010)

I regard [Climate: the Counter Consensus] as a definitive reference work for climate realists- Simon Turnill (Jan. 4, 2011).

Bob Carter's book is a breath of fresh air. Clearly written, concise, methodical, it sets out the case for a longer term view of climate patterns rather than just looking at the last decade. In the end, one cannot but be persuaded that the current variations in both climate and weather patterns are much more likely to represent natural rather than man-made changes – Aurelias, Australia (Amazon review).

….. this is the best. An excellent book written by someone well qualified but it is easily understood by a layman – Neil Stewart, Kewsick, U.K. (Aug. 10, 2010).

A great read, well presented, and strictly factual and without any of the hyperbole so often seen from the alarmist camp – Keith Moore, Leicestershire, U.K. (August 13, 2010).

A revelation, and a vindication of all those people who have questioned manmade global warming … [this book] should be made available in schools and libraries so that everyday folk and children can begin to see how they are being brainwashed – CJ, U.K. ( Sept. 22, 2010).

A thoughtful and scholarly work of science. It is informative, educational and devoid of the usual spin. A must read for anyone interested in the science of climate change – Stephen, U.K. (Sept. 23, 2010).

An excellent summary of the science that supports the sceptical position on the global warming debate … Carter uses calm logic, not extravagant claims, so this book is definitely worth a read – Roger Greene, U.K. (Dec. 26, 2010).

Well written, logical, and easy to follow even if you are unfamiliar with any details regarding climate. I have been studying climate closely for four years now and am writing my dissertation related to climate change (the science of climate change). I definitely recommend this book! – Mike, U.K. (Jan. 19, 2010).

Bob Carter's professional and forensic treatment of the climate change debacle is thoughtful, expert and reassuring. He redresses the balance on a subject that has too long been made one-sided by big business and special interest groups – Ann Marie, Swansea, Wales (March 14, 2011).

I have read more than a dozen books on Climate Change and this book stands out head and shoulders above all of the other books on both sides of the issue. It is easy to understand and the author is not afraid to take each of the issues head on. Congratulations to Professor Carter on a great book and clearly an outstanding contribution to the public in helping them understand a complex subject  – Vincit Veritas, Ojai, California ( Feb. 28, 2011).

Full credit to Bob Carter for taking the time to carefully pull apart the alarmism of the green movement. If I could have but one wish in relation to climate change, it would be that this book could become widely read – C. Jones, Hobart, Tasmania (March 8, 2011).

Professor Bob Carter's scientific analysis of the literature that has fueled the debate on Climate Change is quite exemplary and without peer as an easily read treatise. It should be required reading for anyone who wants some clear cut reasons to counter the environmental hype while at the same time learning a little of the scientific method – John E. Wolff, Hamilton, N.Z. (Feb. 14, 2011).

As a meteorologist who has spent many thousands of hours studying issues related to this topic, I really enjoyed Dr. Carter's process of presenting important information in a very readable manner. This is a fine book – Moe (Jan. 18, 2011).

Bob Carter's book is a breath of fresh air. Clearly written, concise, methodical, it sets out the case for a longer term view of climate patterns rather than just looking at the last decade. In the end, one cannot but be persuaded that the current variations in both climate and weather patterns are much more likely to represent natural rather than man-made changes. This book is a must-read for anyone keen to move beyond simple-minded climate sloganeering – Aurelias, Australia (Jan. 12, 2011).

Remove the hype and spin, lay out the facts, and what's left is a clear and highly intelligent discussion of climate change – Truthseeker (Dec. 11, 2010).
