FLITZER INFO

 |
THE DESIGNER The Flitzer is the brainchild of Lynn Williams, a talented artist, aircraft designer,
and writer. He is a great help to all of the Flitzer builders and it would seem no question is too stupid
for him to answer intelligently and enthusiastically (believe me I know - I've tried!). I have read of
other homebuilt aircraft designers who leave the builders in 'the dark' and don't respond to, in some
cases, desperate pleas from befuddled builders. Lynn would have to be the best there is for technical
support - he will never leave your request for help unanswered.
He is always thinking of new designs
- sometimes whilst still finishing off the older ones - but his unbridled enthusiasm for all things aeronautical
seems boundless and most infectious.

THE AIRCRAFT
The Flitzer began as the Z1 which was the original design by Lynn in the
late 1980's. After the prototype a couple of changes were made (such as a slightly larger tailplane)
and was designated the Z21 - the '2' for the updated design. This aircraft has a 22" width fuselage and
due to several requests a 24" variant was developed and is designated the Z21-A. It is designed to be
powered by the VW aeroconverted engines popular among homebuilt aircraft builders.
The original
design has a 'squared' fin and rudder. Rupert Wasey preferred the more rounded version of a different
design of Lynn's and has adapted it to the Z21 to make a totally different looking marque.
When
you buy the plans from Lynn, the Z21/Z21-A is the basic plane. Any of the other variants rely first on
these plans for basic construction principles. What other variants are there? Check the links page
to see.
