| Advances
in the X-server technology that Hardy Heron brings with it made the
information that used to be in this web page obsolete. This page was originally made to guide new users through the command 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg', which is used to generate a new /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, which contains your video, moues and keyboard settings. Running 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg' once seemed like a long and frightening process to new users, but now it's a lot simpler, so the information that was here has all been deleted. Hardy Heron uses Xorg 7.3 Xwindow system from X.Org Foundation. Intrepid Ibex uses the latest X.Org 7.4, Xwindow system from X.Org Foundation. Jaunty Jackalope is using X.Org server, version 1.6, at the time this web page was last edited. I don't know much about the Xorg, so I don't feel qualified to present any information about it. Sorry for any inconvenience. I think video problems are getting rare now, with the X-server technology advancing all the time, but hardware keeps advancing too. If you do have some kind of video problem, as a temporary workaround, you might try adding the kernel option: xforcevesa to the kernel options in your boot menu, either by using the 'e' (for edit) function to Temporarily Edit the GRUB Menu , or by adding it as a kernel option in /boot/grub/menu.lst That will let you boot in a safe graphics mode and at least you'll have a GUI until you find out how to get your video graphics working properly with their own specific driver. I can provide links to web pages which do have information, and I will add to this list.
