Welcome to our revamped web site, specially designed in the interest of our supporters and followers and also those who have that special Carnaval feeling in their blood, I mean, those persons from the Southern part of the Netherlands, the regions of "Limburg", "Brabant", "Belgium" and "Germany" where Carnaval has been a tradition for many years and is celebrated there by a very large number of people. We would certainly like to transfer that "Carnaval Spirit" to anyone who wishes to join in and have an enjoyable time, of fun, dancing, and friendship.

....
Our aims are to bring fun, joy and happiness to all those involved in the Carnaval festivities, including any participants of Carnaval and to ask you to let your hair down for at least one to three days a year or as is the case in our developed (Australian tradition) 1 night annually and or three days on special occasions such as anniversaries.
....
....
We are the Carnaval group known as "The Sandgropers". We are the only and "traditional Dutch" Carnaval group in Western Australia. Our group was formed and originated out of the migrant population that arrived in Western Australia during the period 1949 - 1954, when there was a great influx of migrants from Europe, bringing with them a number of traditions such as Carnaval, which has since, been carried on in Australia, albeit that they have been transformed to suit our needs, environment and our people.

....Carnavals Clubs generally celebrate anniversaries in periods of 11 years, the number 11 being the Jesters number, therefore when you see written the term 1 x 11, it means that we have been in existence for 11 years. The Carnavals club "The Sandgropers" have been around since 1975 and will be celebration their 3 x 11 Anniversary in 2008. This represents we have been carrying on our traditions for 33 years, a milestone in Western Australia. At these celebrations we will have many visitors, not only from local supporters but from our Eastern States counter parts of which there are some 22 clubs still in existence (thank goodness) we may even have visitors from overseas.
These celebration will be over a three day period, generally the first night is a "Greet and meet" night, but the Sandgropers like to put on some entertainment for our guests who may have travelled thousands of kilometers to get here. The second night (Saturday evening) we hold an official parade where all the clubs parade in full spectacular costumes. On the last day (Sunday) we treat our distant travellers to a luncheon and have medal presentations to and from the various clubs. On such occasion there are speaker such "Buutteredenaar" or "Moeljaan" who may read perhaps a special poem or just take the "mickey" out of a few people especially politicians.
To read such a poem as read at our last celebration please click on the following link.

.... Please read: What is Carnaval, our origin and how it was developed in Western Australia, gives you an insight into our beginnings and how it has panned out in WA with varied outcomes, yet still enjoyed by many. Long live our tradition. (And a drink or two or three)
