Seamless Articulation Cheat Sheet

Definition:
Whilst recognizing previous learnt skills and knowledge: Seamless articulation is a consistent means by which people can move into and between different levels of education sectors.

Scenario:

1.) A career changer from a non-ICT field. Looking at moving into the ICT sector for the 1 st time.

2.) An employee already in the ICT sector looking to move to another field within that sector

3.) A person in another sector that requires ICT skills as part of there job role

4.) A school leaver wishing to move into the ICT sector

 

Questions:
Looking at the above scenarios. Can you site an example of a situation you have directly experienced or perhaps a colleague has experienced within articulation?


In respect to this example:

-Was this recent? i.e. less that 5 years ago


-What were the skills to be learnt?


-Where did you find the information to get those learned skills?


-Where were they taught? i.e. Higher Ed, VET, RTO, Vendor, Adult Community


-How were those skills validated?


-What can be improved?


Learnt Skills
In general terms, how do you validate the ICT skills that the individual posses's?


Ubiquitous ICT
The Business Council of Australia (BCA) and the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) recognise that ICT skills should be pervasive in all courses within the education and training sector. In this regard do you think enough ICT is being taught at the _grass roots_ level?


Positives to Seamless Articulation
There is no such thing as a _perfect model_ but based on the current articulation process you have experienced. Can you list some stages within the articulation process you found particularly solid? i.e. recognition of prior learning when moving from one ICT sector to another


Negatives to Seamless Articulation
As above but sight examples in the process where stages are not a strong or complete?

What are 3-5 points that you think are impediments to seamless articulation? And more importantly what would you do to fix them?
