Dr. Tim Begbie graduated from Sydney University with a Bachelor of Arts and
an Honours Degree in Medicine in 1974 and relocated to Hobart. After an internship
and a further 3 years of surgical training at the Royal Hobart Hospital, he
ventured on a series of GP locums throughout Australia. His interest in people
led him towards a career in General Practice, and after 6 years of practicing
in the Huon Valley he joined the Sandy Bay Medical Centre.
During his period as a locum he noted various limitations in what was available for treatment of certain conditions, in particular headaches, neck pain and back pain. As a consequence, he studied Orthopaedic Medicine under Dr. James Cyriax of London and acupuncture at the Chinese Acupuncture Research Foundation in Taipei, Taiwan.
After 20 years of using acupuncture in his general practice, he decided to devote his time to clinical acupuncture. Now, after 14 years of full-time acupuncture practice, he is reducing his hours to enable time for teaching, mentoring, and examining in his various roles in the Australian Medical Acupuncture College.
The Acupuncture Clinic is located centrally to enable access from all parts of Hobart. It now operates 4 days a week.
