D10n first wrote 4096 Color Wheel and submitted it to
The JavaScript Source in May 2001. It was fully functional back then and probably compatible with all browsers. That is not the case today.
Not much was done to improve upon the design until other people began to utilize and enhance it. Still, the only improvement made by D10n was to create a better image and increase the number of colors.
The version above is an August 2010 rewrite and redesign featuring a nice PNG image with the pointy bits removed due to a rethink of the maping algorithms. The primary color ring contains 1,536 individual color calculations reduced down to less than 360. This has allowed for a greater range of lighter colors towards the outer areas and enable 123,476 unique colors to be displayed. D10n still refuses to use trigonometric functions.
