The Tans in 2011

Upon reflection, 2011 was full of milestone events. In chronological order they are:

Feb:Our dear friend Ho Yew Kee passed away suddenly in Singapore and we made a quick trip there to pay our respects and attend the funeral.

Apr:Rhys was born on 15 April. He has grown so fast in 8 months, with 4 teeth, eating solids, crawling and standing with help. He's tightly attached to his mum but at the same time is showing all the personality attributes of a typical boy.

May:Had a packed fortnight in far north Queensland. Based in Cairns, we went to Kuranda on the Skyrail, the Atherton  Tableland, Paronella Park, Great Barrier Reef, Undara Volcanic Park, Port Douglas, Mossman and the Daintree Forest.

Jul:Nick's divorce was finalised and the following month he and girlfriend Peta jointly bought a decent-sized 4 bedroom house with a pool which is reasonably close to us.

Sep:30th anniversary of the family's migration to Perth. What a good decision it was. No regrets.

Oct:We celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary by going on an 8-day holiday in Kota Kinabalu in Sabah. It was a very enjoyable trip; we loved the laid-back life and attitude of the people as well as the scenery. We didn't climb the mountain but had many great views of it, when it was not shrouded in cloud.  Saw baby orang-utans close up. Cheryl's mum turned 85.

Nov:Nick and Peta's house-warming party followed by a trip to Singapore by the whole family for the 90th birthday of Arthur's mum. We were there for a week – not enough time to see all our friends. However, we did manage to meet up with Arthur's RI school mates and Beatrice Fong and her husband Siew Hong, after many years.

Cheryl has not been in paid employment for the whole year, but so far, is not missing work, finding satisfaction in baking and decorating cakes.

Arthur still enjoys being on his computer and particularly using photographic applications.

Cheryl finally succumbed to family pressure, and we are now a fully Apple Mac household, with a Mac Mini, a MacBook, an iPad and iPhone 4S.

Nick and Greg also have Mac households.

Greg is working in the wholesale electricity market, and still cycles to work when he can.

Ainslie attends kindy twice a week and comes to us on Tuesdays. She is so observant, cheeky and refreshingly honest and innocent. She loves fairies and dancing and pretend weddings!

Nick started a new job in January as a systems administrator; he and Peta engaged the services of a personal trainer for most of the year, with good results.

Zhaan is now living in Nick's new house together with Molly, Peta's dog.  We miss her, but both dogs sometimes come over for doggie day care or a sleepover.

Flemington gave us a fright when he got a splinter into his leg which could not be removed except by surgery; the procedure was a success but cost a bomb; but worth it for our precious little pet.
