CLUB BELL
The Club Bell is unique being made
of brass and bearing the signatures of all Charter members. The bell was
donated by the late Harold Sargison, a craftsman known world wide for his
work in silver,
CLUB BANNER
A drawing of the bell adorned the
first club banner.
In 1972, a new banner
designed by Lynette Wilson was introduced featuring a map of Tasmania,
a Rotary wheel and crossed sprigs of flowering Blue-gum, the Tasmanian
floral emblem.
SERVICE
The Club has been active in all
avenues of service.
Of particular note have been services
to youth, overseas aid, vocational and community services in support of
a wide range of needs and official Rotary projects.
A particular project of pride was
the Club's involvement in the construction of the training brigantine the
"Windward Bound'.
FUND RAISING
The Club successfully ran a Travel
and Leisure Show on an annual basis for 10 years.
Under the guidance and and organisation
of the late Rotarian John Cogan this raised substantial funds, enabling
the Club to generously support many projects over the years. In recent
years a weekly Sunday market initiated by Rotarian Velja Urosevic and supervised
by members on a roster basis also proved successful. In recent years 'antique
evenings' at Lindhurst, the home of Hellen and Derek Chambers, have been
very successful, These and community barbecues have enabled the Club
to continue its various support activities.
SPONSORSHIP OF NEW CLUBS
The Club sponsored the formation
of the the Rotary Club of Salamanca in 1993, a very successful and dynamic
breakfast club.
The Club has also sponsored the
formation of three Probus clubs through the efforts of P.P. Murray Yaxley.
