X.25

X.25 Network for SCADA application

Wed, 5 Feb 1997 13:47:50 +0800

Hello, Does anyone out there know if it is possible to configure an X.25 network so that the master station PAD establishes PVC (Permanent Virtual Calls) to many remote PADs at the same time or sequentially without any dialling process for the master station? The remote PADs will need to be connected to the master's PAD through a PVC so the remotes can reply to the master packets without having to dial. Please note that this X.25 network is a private network and so setting up PVCs is not a problem. Does anyone know who can supply (if possible) such PADs for us to use? Thanks in advance for any help in this matter.

I think your best bet is to use TCP/IP instead of X.25. It is a lot easier to work with instead of X.25 since there is a lot of software available. We have an old system which consists of 3 utilities interconnected with dedicated lines running at 9600 b/s. There is one master which polls the other 2 utilities SCADA computers for real time information. The interfaces from the computer is RS-232C to a Motorola x.25 pad which takes a text file and and generates an x.25 packet. Ivar Rand
