Tek Soft Consulting
Tek Soft Consulting specialises in SCADA consulting, especially in the water industry.
Tek Soft has strong links into the SCADA industry particularly in Australia
(engineering consulting and suppliers), and routinely assists people or firms in the SCADA
industry by placing them in contact with these sources.
If you are tendering for a large infrastructure project, of which SCADA
is a component, contact us. |
Establishment of this website has led to many requests for advice and assistance.
This is encouraged, and advice on SCADA and communications projects, standards,
problems, and requests for contacts with suppliers can be obtained by
emailing Ian Wiese at ianw@iinet.net.au.
This advice is offered free of charge, with no liability accepted, or
any guarantee of service. Obviously the service is not intended to replace
traditional engineering consulting services. By its very nature the
response will be superficial. Questions that would require
research or major effort to respond to are outside the scope of this
offer, but arrangements may be made to undertake such projects. Obviously
these requests for informal advice sometimes develop and when it becomes
unreasonable to continue to provide assistance you will be referred to traditional
sources for engineering assistance, or satisfactory arrangements negotiated to continue with the project.
Assistance in the past has been given on a wide range of issues including advice on protocols, suppliers of RTU's,
sources of engineering assistance, recommendations for contracting approaches, sources of information, project management,
benefits and potential application of SCADA, pros and cons of different protocols, and so on.
| |
Please don't ask questions that are legal in nature, or requiring an
opinion on the performance of a particular contract.
|
When requesting advice, you will get better results and save time if you don't
just ask "what RTU can I use?", as it is not
possible to sensibly answer such a question. Please provide some basic information such as
A brief description of your project, eg scope, brief functional requirements etc.
Your role in the project - customer, supplier, potential bidder etc
Whether this is a new or existing system.
Some information about your firm, and your role- what you do, etc.
Any information about your country that is relevant.
 A description of the problem.
What you would like from Tek Soft.

For example:
My name is XXX, and I work for YYY, a gas pipeline operator in ZZZZZZZZZZ. We have an aging
UUUUU system installed around 8 years ago, and are finding maintenance difficult, as the supplier has
closed his office in this country. Therefore we intend to replace the system. I am the client in the project team.
We are at a very early stage in the project and I am seeking advice on the type of system we should
install, and how to select a vendor who will support the system long term. By the way, to do business
in my country it is essential to have a local partner.
OR
My name is XXX, and I work for a small engineering firm in YYY. The local electricity utility is preparing to
tender a large SCADA project (over 100 sites), and we are looking for an experienced SCADA Systems integrator to establish
a joint vendor to tender their projects. The project is funded by the World Bank, and the Bank will
attach importance to having successfully completed other World Bank projects of this nature.
We have the capability to do the local installation and commissioning, and with suitable training could provide support for the
systems.

As you can see this type of information provides a basis for responding to your request, and the
quality of the advice you will receive is likely to be much higher. The information you provide will not be disclosed
without your permission.
Any information supplied will not be given to third parties without your permission.
Asking for advice in this manner involves no committment on your part to involve Tek Soft
further in your project. In many cases we find these requests come at an early stage in the project,
before it is properly funded.
| |
What do Tek Soft expect from this? In some cases, if the advice you have received was sound,
you may wish to use the services of Tek Soft or organisations we recommend for later stages of
the project. However this is not necessary. We would definitely like to hear from you later on with feedback
on how your project developed.
