Variable Angle of Attack System (VAoAS)

for Foils

At this stage the VAoAS has been developed for Concept Air kites with a static VSS.  In theory it should also work with most other types of foils but we have not yet tested and developed the specific instructions for fitting the kit for other kites.

The VAoAS kit cost $AUD 60.00 & comprises:
bulletDetailed instructions including diagrams and colour photographs
bulletCentre leader/ safety line
bulletLeft and right pulley assemblies
bulletStainless steel cleat to be fitted to your existing bar

Benefits of the VAoAS:
bulletEnables the AoA to be optimised on-the-fly while riding your board
bulletEnables a high performance foil to be exceptionally stable by increasing the AoA when required
bulletCan kill a luff much more effectively than just using brakes
bulletStill has full reverse re-launch capability
bulletEncorporates the safety leash on the same centre line used to adjust the AoA ie no more wrist leash getting in your way
bulletVery stable deadman release (much more stable than standard safety leash on CA New Waves).   Kite can be easily re-launched off the water after dropping the bar by simply releasing centre line tension.

Flying with the VAoAS

Once fitted and trimmed, the VAoAS is simple and easy to use.  When initially launching and getting off the beach, reef in plenty of centre line, but not so much that the kite starts to stall ie slip backwards).  This will give you excellent luff resistance (luffing is caused by the kite over-flying the edge of the wind window in gusts and turbulence).

When out on the water with good apparent wind over the wing, pay out centre line until you get maximum performance (power and turning).  If this point is close to minimum AoA (centre line paid fully out) then be sure to reef in prior to jibes or jumping so that the kite does not luff on you.

If hit by a strong gust you can pay out centre line to reduce the AoA and accelerate your kite to the edge of the wind window to depower, but this will not “spill air” to depower like an inflatable sled style kite – you will still need to edge your board hard against the pull of the kite to let it accelerate forward.

If at any time you feel the kite start to luff, then don’t try and reef in – simply grab the centre line (on the kite side of your bar) and give it a good pull – this will immediately kill any luff and back the kite away from overflying the edge of the wind window.

I don't want to get ripped off so I've been reluctant to release too much information on the system - it's really very simple and I'm sure once my product gets out on the market there will be many copies - I'm just trying to protect my intellectual property.

If you are not happy with our kit, return it and the instructions supplied with an undertaking that you have not made any copies of the kit or the instructions and will not disclose the details of the system to any other party - then I will be happy to give you your money back.

I'd also appreciate it if you are happy with the system that you recommend to people that they buy the original from us - I really don't want to have to undertake expensive legal action if I can avoid it.
