Religious Education at Iona Presentation College takes place not only in the formal Religious Education classes but permeates the ethos of the whole school. The greeting at the beginning and end of each class incorporates a blessing. There are prayer tables set up as a focus for prayer, and prayer not only begins and ends each day, but is also said at the beginning of each Religious Education class.

The formal Religious Education programmes have been prepared in accordance with the Perth Archdioccesan Guidelines for Catholic schools for Year Eight to Year Twelve.

The liturgical life of the school is a rich and full one:

Weekly Mass is offered every Thursday at lunchtime (the lunch break is 50 minutes to allow the girls who attend Mass time to eat their lunch). The Form class assigned to each Thursday Mass assists with the preparation of that Mass.

Year Twelve girls are commissioned as Special Ministers of the Eucharist in Term Four each year and assist at Thursday Masses as well as on such occasions as the Opening of the School Year Masses, Ash Wednesday, St Patrick’s Day Mass, Presentation Day Mass, Multicultural Day Mass, Assumption Day Mass etc. Reconciliation is offered to all year levels on an ongoing basis throughout the school year.

Religious Education classes conduct their own class liturgies and prayer is always an integral part of any college gatherings such as assemblies. Retreat/Reflection Days are offered from Year Eight to Year Twelve each year. These are a rich experience for the girls and are a compulsory part of the Religious Education Programme.

Community Service and social justice is promoted at Iona through a number of service clubs which meet once a week to organise activities such as fundraising. These clubs are ‘Young Vinnies’, Red Cross, Vision Generation, Amnesty International.

The college has a strong commitment to collecting mission money in Form classes and the girls are very aware that there are many less fortunate than themselves. Much of the money collected goes towards the Presentation Sisters’ mission in Thailand.
