Every episode starts with a crazy machine, and has features teaching kids different ways to think. The algorithmic march is genius. Of course I also got hooked on all the other Youtube and Google videos on the website. I download them with http://videodownloader.net

I found through a comment that there are bit torrents of 4 fan sub-titled episodes by the Dattebayo group at http://yhbt.mine.nu/.
According to http://encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Pythagorean+Switch they are shown on digital cable channel TV Japan in the USA and in Brazil. Maybe SBS will pick them up for Australian TV.

Infinity Climber

Growing up with the experience of climbing on an object with only one side and one edge may lead to the development of the evil geniuses this world so desperately needs.

"The free-form flowing shape defies flat planes and presents an appearance of organic movement. A drastic departure from static playgrounds, children are challenged to move their bodies around a constantly flowing shape.

Well-crafted sculptural forms are, as one would expect, visually enriching; but more so, they cultivate a positive mind-set and contribute to the overall healthiness of the community. Physical play is certainly healthy, but also teaches children to make decisions, instills confidence, and develops their sense of focus. Little Tikes, through the organic, friendly, graceful shape of the Infinity Climber, has produced a superlative fusion of these rarely united necessities of childhood."

TV by RSS

I just downloaded the Juice podcatcher and loaded it up with feeds from tvRSS. Now I can catch TV shows over the internet that don't get broadcast here - automatically! Juice even downloads torrents, and works on linux, windows and OSX.

I've also been looking at streaming with my GeeXbox, instead of waiting for downloads. I can stream anything from www.archive.org as if it were another TV station, without any drop-outs or delays. I watched The Power of Nightmares without having to wait for a download. In the same way, the Beyond Belief seminars can be streamed straight from the website. I used the DownloadThemAll plugin to find the actual mp4 video links, and then pasted them to this m3U playlist file to play on GeeXbox without the hassle of navigating through a web browser on the TV.

My ENT doctor had me try FLO Post Sinus and Nasal surgery wash. You mix some powder with boiled water to make something like your body's extra cellular fluid, and squirt it up your nose. It got rid of sinus infections within 3 days without antibiotics. Its done such a good job of looking after my sinuses that my overall health has improved a lot. I think the lack of sinus inflammation has been good for my immune system and my nervous system.

After a month, I'm addicted to the health benefits. I can see myself using this as a long term treatment. Its so rare to find something that works after all these years.

I have a riddle for you, how can something NOT be true, be widely believed, and yet NOT be a myth? The widely distributed belief that a duck's quack doesn't echo has its basis in reality, and yet it isn't true.

Ian Woolf once again shows us that things aren't always what they seem. The duck tape of the sitting duck disproving quackery can be found at the University of Salford Acoustic, Auditory and Video department website www.acoustics.salford.ac.uk

I discovered something wonderful last week, feedburner.com have started offering podcast download counting as part of their free service! This means that instead of just counting subscribers I can actually keep count of how many people download each show over time.

http://feeds.feedburner.com/diffusionradio

It hasn't been a full week yet, but the numbers are encouraging. On Diffusion Science Radio we may only have around 500 regular subscribers that feedburner can count, but in the last six days we have had 5,496 downloads of 81 shows. Ten times more downloads than subscribers! I can finally talk the same language as other podcasters.

My personal podcast has slowed while I've fought off the Lurgi since the end of May, and I'm still fighting. I haven't posted up my last few broadcasts. However in the last six days there have been 2,080 downloads of my personal podcast, despite only 130 incredibly patient subscribers. The most popular items this week are Demand One Demand, Dolphin Terrorists, Caramel Cars, What Women Look For, and Happy Semen.

Big Ruddock

Ironically Attorney-general Phillip Ruddock has led a new
censorship drive starting with the TV show Big Brother, and extending through eight
titles he has referred to "The Classification Review Board". They only agreed to censor
two of them, so this is his justification for removing freedom of speech and enquiry.

Ruddock is upset that Terror Police raids in Sydney found nasty books. However it
turned out that the books were legal, so no charges could be brought against these
book-crimes.

Thus, the law must be changed to match Ruddock's views, and the
Howard Regime have the power in both houses to do it, and the precedent of the 2005
Terror Laws.

The Review Board banned Defence of the Muslim Lands and Join the Caravan. They have allowed The Ideological Attack, The Criminal West, Jihad in the Qur%’an and Sunnah, The Absent Obligation, Islam and Modern Man: The Call of Islam to Modern Man Vol. II, and The Qur%’anic Concept of War. They have also allowed the movie Jihad or Terrorism with a PG rating.

informing people on the Disability Support Pension, who will be sent a

Australian fish at risk of Ciguatera poisoning

I'm often asked for a list of fish people shouldn't eat if they

want to avoid the risk of Ciguatera Fish Poisoning. Here's the

official list from 1999 (before Sydney fishing was banned) for

Australia, none of which I have ever knowingly eaten.

From the 1999 Federal Government report by Leigh Lehane:
http://www.affa.gov.au/corporate_docs/publications/pdf/animalplantheal

th/chief_vet/ciguatera.pdf

"The main fish species in Australia that have caused outbreaks of

CFP are: narrowbarred
Spanish mackerel (Scomberomorus commersoni) and other mackerel

species,
coral trout (Plectropomus spp.), flowery cod (Epinephelus

fuscoguttatus), barracuda
(Sphyraena jello), red emperor (Lutjanus sebae), queenfish

(Scomberoides
commersonianus), grouper (Epinephelus lanciolatus), red bass (Lutjanus

bohar),
trevally (Caranx spp.), Maori wrasse (Chelinus trilobatus), kingfish

(Seriola spp.),
parrotfish (Scarus spp.), chinaman fish (Symphorus nematophorus) and

paddletail
(Lutjanus gibbus) (Mitchell 1976; Gillespie et al 1986; Fenner et al

1997)."

Deceptive Truths

Magicians exploit the flaws in our perceptions to create entertaining

illusions. Deception is a part of all human societies, and its

believed that deceiving other people is where we learn our theory of

mind. Are politicians the only people who have taken these skills from

the stage and into real life? I put on my top hat and take my magic

wand to investigate.

woke me at 5am, and now at 10:15pm they are still running their

bandsaw and drills. I don't know what woodwork has to do with washing

cars, but they're very keen on it. They're using some nasty smelling

stuff on the wood that makes me dizzy. Hopefully they'll finished

before midnight, and won't restart tomorrow with more noise. I know

better than to hope they stop playing "Its A Hard Knock Life" over and

over on their sound system.

I'd really like to know why councils all over Sydney have allowed them

to build these loud industrial sites that run more than 12 hours a

day, 7 days per week, between houses and flats. I've seen others and

they're also in residential zones. There seems to be no limits on what

they do, or when they do it. They never rest, I guess they're not

unionised.

They must use megalitres of water - all day, every day.

Chatswood, Lane Cove, Mosman, Bondi, Kingsford, and more; the

commercial car washes are doing very well out of selling car owners

the right to bypass the water restriction laws. Residents aren't

allowed to waste water on their cars, but businesses have a license to

sell the right to waste water on cars, while disrupting residential

areas more than dirty cars ever would. Water restrictions mean nothing

if they encourage a trade of water wasting rights. Can't do what you

like with water? Buy the right from a business! Does the business make

more water? No. Any other laws that the government wants to sell the

right to violate? And more water is wasted, because its now a revenue

generator.

In a drought-ridden State, what self-respecting patriot has a clean

car? Commercial Car Washes are water pollution factories that dump

phosphates in the river system as they empty our drinking water

supply, just so you can feel your car looks pretty.

Show you are community minded and let your car stay dirty. It doesn't

harm the car. Wash it yourself, over a lawn, in the evening, when its

legal. A pretty car means you're UnAustralian. Think about the

children!

Yes Minister

>Its amazing what a good education in translating deliberately

deceptive official language the "Yes Minister" and "yes Prime

Minister" TV series gives you. Government employees wish to deceive

the public so that they can get what they want without democracy

getting in the way. On the other hand, they avoid lying outright,

because if the truth IS discovered by the public, they can spin that

they had always told the truth, its just that you were too stupid to

understand what they were really saying.

ASIO Chief Paul O'Sullivan is quoted in Monday's Sydney Morning Herald

talking about the threat of terrorist attack on Australian soil:

"ASIO's assessment of a possible terrorist attack in Australia has

remained at medium since the September 2001 attacks in the US, Mr

O'Sullivan said."

Translation: The threat has not increased.

" He said there was a higher threat level for acts against the

interests of the US, Britain and Israel in Australia."
Translation: Even if an attack did happen, terrorists don't hate

Australians enough to aim at us. Its vague whether he means Embassies

or MacDonalds, or MacDonalds at Embassies.

"However, recent trends had indicated terrorist groups were now

smaller and more diffuse, making it harder for security agencies to

detect them."
Translation: There is little evidence for terrorist groups or threats

in Australia.

"This justified the enhanced powers the Federal Government had given

ASIO and the federal police. These included warrants that allow people

to be detained without charge in certain circumstances."

Translation: The fact that there is no evidence of danger justifies

imprisoning people without charge and making them answer questions

without a lawyer under duress, in secret.

The Government employed scientists do the same thing.
Prolonged Illness after Infectious Mononucleosis Is Associated with

Altered Immunity but Not with Increased Viral Load.

"The detailed determinants of delayed recovery remain to be

elucidated."
Translation: After 15 years of research, we have proved that we have

no clue what causes Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Give us your grant money

anyway.]]

"You may experience a slight

Whether or not you're involved in making a rocketcar, or you're just

turning up to hang out on the street and catch the some rays from the

glow of excitement that will be emanating from all around you, the

time is soon approaching when we hope the planets will align, people

will arrive on time, the street will have no cars on it and security

The Missing Link

I have a different approach to the

Intelligent Design pushers. "Design" sounds innocuous, because its

just thinking, right? However you can't make watches or other complex

things without a manufacturing process. First comes design, then

manufacture. This is the "missing link" of Intelligent Design.

The ID people claim they aren't pushing religion, so lets take them at

their word.

How was life, or the Universe manufactured, and by who? The ID people

say it wasn't humans. So was it aliens? They must have very advanced

technology!

Its not technology they say? But technology is just applied natural

laws. Oh, the Intelligent Manufacturer didn't use natural laws, but

SUPERNATURAL laws? You mean MAGIC???

So the missing link between Intelligent Design and reality is the

application of supernatural laws, and this should be taught in high

school science classes. Magic.

Applied supernatural laws would be wizardry and/or witchcraft.

The kids are going to love the new Hogwarts-style Witchcraft and

Wizardry science classes!

Sydney poisoned

All fishing in Sydney has been banned

indefinitely because seafood from the Harbour is poisoned with 35

times the WHO safe level of dioxins.

Extension

of harbour fishing ban likely ABC
Sydney

Harbour commercial fishing halted ABC

None of the reports name the corporations who dumped all this poison

into the harbour. There is no indication that the people poisoned, the

fishermen rendered jobless, nor the cost of cleaning up will be borne

by the polluters. They are just referred to as "industries in Homebush

Bay", whose poison sediments have spread everywhere for many years.

The State government hasn't committed to payng for any of this either.

They're just hoping that some of the most persistant industrial wastes

in the world will go away in a few months - or that the electorate

will forget about it.
The poison didn't just happen yesterday. The Primary Industries

Minister's angle is that its not his fault that the WHO have lowered

the safe amount of dioxins. He admits the current levels are as bad as

they were when he checked ten years ago.

Maybe the fish that survive the poison can replenish the unsustainably

over-fished ocean.

Ironically, the tabloid TV shows recently bullied fish shops for not

displaying where fish was from so that people could avoid buying

foreign food. Now the same origin labelling laws can help you avoid

food grown locally.

Last straw with Telstra

I just had a conversation with a

Telstra employee about my increased bill. They claim that they have no

record of me ever having a pension. I spoke to a Telstra sales person

just last week who looked up my records and confirmed my pensioner

discount. And very week for months I've been bothered by phone plan

people, even door-to-door.

Telstra now say that they only give the Pensioner discount to

customers who have long distance and local calls with them. So I don't

get a discount anymore. They also claim this has been the case for two

years. When I complained that I was never notified, they go back to

saying their records show me as working for (get this): "Gab Prior and

Matt".

When I first acquired this landline, I was in a share house with

Gabrielle and Matthew, I wasn't working for them! Obviously their

databases are corrupt, and totally trusted. The phone guy tried to

persuade me that I'd never spoken with Telstra or written to them with

my pension number, because it wasn't in the database.

So if there's no pensioner discount, and the line rental is

outrageously higher (the copper was paid for decades ago), then there

is no longer any point in dealing with Telstra. I refuse to make a

deal over the phone or door to door. I need to see the figures on

paper to see that any new plan is a better bargain than what I'm

paying.

Telstra just changed from monthly to 3-monthly billing in advance. So

my bill went up 3 times. If they're going to bill ahead instead of

behind, then they are no better than the ISPs. They warned in their

letter about the quarterly billing, but NOT about billing in advance.

I notice I'm still being charged $3 per month for the crappy ten year

old phone they supplied. What a complete rip-off. Its somehow more

blatantly offensive now that they're charging me three months in

advance.

I haven't seen any evidence of any other company offering a Pensioner

discount, but I might start asking for it from every phone plan scam

artist. Sadly they will never commit their promises to paper.

For $60 per year, I may as well have a phone that does Skype and

webcam.

Karaoke Therapy

I accidentally ingested neurotoxins

from tropical fish in December 2002, on a locally delivered pizza.

Amongst the bizarre Ciguatera symptoms was “Mild Aphasia”,

including changes to my voice. I sounded terrible. I wasn’t able

to convey emotions in the tonality of my voice, and I often slurred my

words or went quiet. The professional speech therapists took two looks

down my throat and told me they couldn’t see me using my voice

wrongly. So I’ve had to do the Mad Scientist thing and

experiment on myself, after reading up on neurology and immunology and

toxicology.

I figured that if singing activated a different part of the brain for

people who stutter and helps them speak clearly, it may also help with

my voice changes. A different neural pathway sounded like exactly what

I need. Singing is all about conveying emotions in the changing

tonality of your voice.

So I downloaded EvilLyrics and winamp, and sing along at home. I have

a bad memory for lyrics, but with EvilLyrics downloading them and

displaying them in front of me for every song; I could sing. Nobody

had to hear me. Mysteriously, my voice was remarkably richer the next

day.

Thus Karaoke therapy was born. I suspect the fact that I’m

trying to match the singer’s timing, pronunciation and

inflection are part of what makes a difference. In primary school, I

used to be part of a school choir. We sang at the Sydney Opera House.

I think singing with another voice, gives feedback for me to make

corrections to my singing.

It seems to give me the best results if I sing for up to an hour, as

part of my preparing for sleep rituals. Too little time has less

effect. If I miss it for too many days, then my voice reverts to poor,

high montonal, and faint.

I’m experimenting further to see if I can refine it and get

better results. Certainly listening to my mp3 radio pieces, the

changes are clear.

I have no medical qualifications, I’m just giving myself

technical support for a black box problem that the experts have given

up on. This seems to work for me, I hope if you have suffered the same

symptoms, that it works for you. If nothing else, Karaoke is

fun!
