Without everyones help this would not have been possible. Thank You Chris for organising the Shopping Centre Display.
Chocolate Fundraising.Adrienne will have chocolates at the first show. We get 50% of all money raised from the chocolates. Not very good for our health but great for the Rabbit Fancy!!
RCD Vaccination day.The 2009 vaccination day was a great success. We are planning another one in 2010. Please contact Chris to register your interest for 2010. Chris's contact details are below. Rabbit Viral Hemorrhagic Disease (VHD) is a highly contagious disease caused by a calicivirus that affects only rabbits of the Oryctolagus cuniculus species. This includes wild and domesticated European rabbits, from which our own domesticated rabbits are descended. VHD is also known by several other acronyms: RHD (Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease), RCV (Rabbit Calicivirus), and RCD (Rabbit Calicivirus Disease). VHD was first seen in China in 1984, and has since spread to Mexico, Continental Europe, Israel, the UK, Australia and New Zealand. Vaccinations. There is no known cure for VHD. Vaccinations are available in Australia. Vaccinations can take place once the bunny is older than six weeks. However if the vaccination is done before the bunny is 10 weeks old then the bunny will need a booster vaccination after four weeks. Adults should be vaccinated only when in good health and should be given a booster annually. Some vet clinics charge a large amount for vaccination of pet bunnies. This is partly because once they open a vial of vaccine they have to discard it after a short time if the rest of it isn't used. The large cost is one reason why many pet owners do not vaccinate their bunny For the first time WARCI is organising an RCD Vaccination day for members of the public. Many eastern states Clubs do this and get a huge response from the public. A vet from the Morley Vet Centre will be doing the vaccinations. You will also be able to have a vet health check for your bunny. The cost will be $25 which is 50% of the normal vet charge. WARCI members will be available to show rabbit owners how to clip nails, groom rabbits and provide information. Our excellent info kit will be available for sale as well as water bottles, nail clippers etc. You will need to register with Chris on 9344 7313 or email on mjcrdean@bigpond.net.au. We need to know how many people plan to come so we ensure we have enough vaccine. You can register any time in the next 8 weeks. We would appreciate people paying in advance to help WARCI pay for the costs involved. The Vaccination day will be advertised in our newsletter, online and in the Quokka. We would appreciate our members publicizing it to anyone they sell bunnies to or speak to. We would like to Thank the Morley Vet Centre for their assistance in running this day.
