Mark à la solo
If you fancy something pleasant, (but not too pleasant), entertaining (but not in that always 'look at me! look at me!' fashion ... well ok, sometimes...), and different, but not in an utterly nutterly fashion, you might want to think about getting Mark Jackson in solo mode.Mark plays guitar in two types of tunings; plays the resonator ukulele; sings with big, little, sometimes high, sometimes unaccompanied voices, and is rather wedded to singing songs that are melodic, of a slower groove variety, and sourced from 1926 through to 2010. Mostly they are songs that you won't hear often on the radio, or they are songs that you have heard frequently, but are sung in such a fashion that you go 'oh!! That song!'. Suss his repertoire here.
Hailing from and residing in Newcastle, Mark is well known (historically) in some circles for prior membership of:
- voicepopfoible (R.I.P.
-
an
original
band
from
Victoria
who played around oz at many festivals
and venues from 1996 to 2009).
- The Ugly Uncles
(a jazz / jug band that is still going strong and loved in their
homestate of Victoria. Mark lives in NSW, so that doesn't work!)
- Fat Tuesday (a rather large motley 1990s samba / funk Newcastle band)
- A Band Named Armstrong (Newcastle band that played unfamiliar 80s pop songs that were never big hits in oz, but should have been)
- The Castanet Club (a rather famous Novocastrian mob who even sold out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Many people in Newcastle recognise me from this era, even though I was a rather unassuming backline trumpet player who very occasionally sang or read a poem, and always always dressed badly. Must be because that was my 15 minutes of fame and that I still have all my hair).
Be glad to hear from you!
