The evil insurance issue and the nice other issues

There comes a time in the life of every child....um...I mean, group of people, that we need to be told about growing up and becoming an adult ... um ... larger, more structured organisation.

The 'puberty' issue for gatherings of community members seems to be Public Liability Insurance (excuse me whilst I throw up)....

But there it is, the inevitable. Some places will only let you play if you have Insurance (did I hear someone scream?).

Well, it has come to that time for we in the Ukestras, and now, if you wish to perform in a public space with the Ukestra, then we have to ask you to do the least onerous thing. JOIN THE NEWCASTLE & HUNTER VALLEY FOLK CLUB!

This is a fabulous thing to do anyhow! But mostly it enables us to travel along merrily without thoughts of (gasp!) 'incorporation' or (eeek!) 'structure'. As one reprobate would have it .... "I don't like committees, I like a benevolent dictatorship".

Which isn't to say that your input is not wanted. Indeed it is! And even your opinions! So occasionally we will have meetings, and even occasionally there will be something resembling 'minutes'. In fact you can look at some now if you so wish.

Which brings me to my favourite 'committee' joke.

Committees are best constituted from an odd number of people, and three is too many.

And it also leaves open the possibility of us organising more in the future - a Newcastle & Stockton Ukulele Festival anyone?
