Romantic & Quirky
'Bra Iz' (Israel Kamakawiwoʻole) has inspired many
a relationship. His serene and moving medley of 'Somewhere
Over the Rainbow' and 'What a Wonderful World' combined two of
the most hopeful and positive songs the world has seen, and
helped kick off the international ukulele boom.Newcastle, NSW is no different. Mark Jackson has, with his partner Jane Jelbart, helped bring the joy of playing ukulele to hundreds of people in the Lower Hunter. From primary school children to octagenarians, people are learning to sing and play music together in ukestras.
Are you perhaps seeking beautiful ukulele duets, mixed with a bit of guitar, trumpet, banjo (very occasionally!) and sweet harmonies? Mark & Jane (together called SQuidge) can create a tailored, joyous and romantic musical atmosphere for your guests waiting for your arrival, and can provide that special intimacy that only live music can create for the walk down the aisle.
Our repertoire is generally romantic and mellow, though we'd like to think a little different. We are inspired by the likes of Damien Rice, Patience & Prudence (!), Massive Attack and Nick Cave. A strange collection, but we feel we do them creative justice.
To give you an idea of SQuidge's chemistry, here is a serving of Nick Cave's "Into My Arms", played on the tenor and baritone ukuleles.
