PERTH GLORY COACH LEAVING
Bernd Stange, the man who lifted Western Australia's soccer profile when he became Perth Glory coach in 1998 and helped them to the National Soccer League finals in its first season with sell out crowds at the WACA, will not have his contract renewed next season.
Even though the board voted in favour of extending Stange's contract, Perth Glory Chairman, Nick Tania, who owns 75% of the club, reversed the decision. He said that Bert Stange was never part of the long term plan of Perth Glory.
With Perth Glory currenty established in the top 6, it was a strange decision, hopefully the players will rally behind their coach and bring the championship to Perth in June before Stange leaves.
STIRLING LIONS RELEGATED?
It appears the Stiling Lions (formally Stirling Macedonia) have been relegated from the Premier League. The club paid their fees late to Soccer West Coast, and are not taking part in the night series, and also were not in the draft for Perth Glory players, Rockingham City, who finished second in the First Division last season have taken their place. I have not heard any media report yet that the decision to relegate the former powerhouse of WA soccer is for certain as it still could get overturned.
FALCONS CHANGE NAME
The Inglewood Falcons have decided to change their name to Inglewood United, to give it more profile as a soccer club with the other "united's" around the world. Inglewood have changed their name before, they were formally Inglewood Kiev.
