Committee

The original Hall of Fame committee

When the Hall of Fame was established in 1995 under the chairmanship of John O'Connell the first consideration was to find independent personnel willing to serve on the sub-committee authorised by the Soccer Administration of WA.

It would be their duty to lay the foundations of an organization that would develop a method of finding those worthy of inclusion in the "Hall of Fame" making decisions without fear or favour, independent of likes or dislikes and ignoring the pressures that inevitably accompany such and exercise.

Those asked and who accepted John O'Connell's invitation to a position on the sub-committee were Julius Re, Bob Brown, Alan Beale, David Andrews and Frank Miller.

John O'Connell
From Liverpool, England, John O'Connell probably one of the most fervent football adherents in the history of the game in WA. He was an outstanding player in the WA premier league for almost two decades, a longtime State player, a coach at all levels in addition to promoting the game on radio and television commentator for many years. He was inducted into the "Hall of Champions" in 1996

A Scotsman with a precise mind for the game of football in WA Frank Miller was a football journalist of the highest integrity following on from his career as a player in the late 40's and 50's to becoming a State selector during the exciting 50's and 60's. His records and knowledge of the code in those years made a significant contribution to eventual selections for the "Hall of Fame". He was inducted into the "Hall of Recognition in 2002.

Julius Re
Julius Re was an innovator for the code in WA in the late 50's and through the 60's. He was there during the traumatic event of 1959-64 when the game moved from pure amateur to volatile semi-professionalism. He was elected president of the new Soccer Federation of WA in 1960-69 and saw the code through the changeover and the 1959 FIFA five-year expulsion of Australia from the international stage. He led WA into Asia when the national body and other States turned their back on the opportunity to expand the code internationally. He was inducted into the "Hall of Recognition" in 1996.

There have been changes to the sub-committee in the intervening years with Julius Re and Frank Miller stepping down while Alan Beale passed away.
