The South West Phoenix FC are a South West Region Football Club that provides a development pathway for players within the South West Region. With the South West we have a vibrant women's competition with many talented players. We have asked the Country Women's Soccer Association to look at putting a women's team into the metro comp under the banner of SW Phoenix.

It has been discussed at board level that it would be great for the region for a Women's Carnival to be played in Bunbury over a weekend. At this stage the format would be 16 teams, split into four divisions, with the top team from each division playing a semi-final with the winners playing in a final. It is proposed that each half would be 30 minutes. At this stage we are looking at the 25 and 26th of October 2008. We are looking at providing trophies, shield and monetary prizes for the winners or a combination of the three. It is proposed to be an open competition, however this will depend on responses.

Should anybody be interested please contact John McCleary on 0423 003 359 or via email at jlm@wn.com.au

Nominations are being sought for the next induction into the Football Hall of Fame Western Australia. The night of celebration offers the chance for champion players, leading administrators, top coaches and referees to be formally saluted for their achievements in WA football. The new Hall of Merit for Players will be introduced at July's ceremony that will also feature inductions into the established Hall of Champions and the Hall of Recognition. It will be the fourth induction ceremony since the launch of the Football Hall of Fame in 1996.

To qualify for the Hall of Champions, players must either have figured at representative level, won a League title, a Cup competition or a similar award - or won notable individual awards - and been involved at a high level. They must either have been born in WA, raised in WA or played in WA for at least three seasons. To be considered, they must also have stopped competing at a professional level for at least three years.

The Hall of Merit for Players has been created to honour special players who enjoyed considerable success at club level and made an outstanding contribution to the game in this state. They must also have performed at a high level. For entry into the Hall of Recognition, the criteria demands that administrators, coaches or referees must have made a significant contribution to football in WA. They can still be involved in the game.

Clubs and the general public are invited to nominate individuals for induction into any one of the three hall of Fame categories. Nominations are to be lodged with Hall of Fame secretary Barbara Gibson (9526 0330) no later than 25th April and must include as many details as possible on the nominee, a contact number and your own contact number. The Committee of the Football Hall of Fame reserves the right to have the final say on all nominees.

Coach Damon Atthowe is looking forward to assembling the 2008 State Schoolboys squad when trials commence later this month. The State representative team has enjoyed tremendous success during their four years under Attowe who has no doubt Western Australia's young players are as good as any in the nation. "Our record in the past four years has been exceptional with two silver medals and a bronze," said the coach. "To put this into perspective, in the previous 22 years the WA boys had won only two other medals, both bronze. In 2007 we had two national representatives and in 2005 we had five players in the Australian team."

Trials for the upcoming Schools National Championship, being staged in Port Macquarie this August, commence later this month. "Trials for the Schoolboys start on Wednesday 26th March at 4.00pm at Parnham Reserve in Carlisle, and the Schoolgirls trials are taking place on Saturday 29th March at 5.00pm at Wauhop Park in Fremantle," said Atthowe. To be eligible players must either be a full-time TAFE or secondary school student, and be aged 19 or under as of 31st December 2008. Further information is available via the School Sport WA website.

YOUR UNWANTED FOOTBALL GEAR CAN HELP PHILIPPINES' YOUTH

If you have any unwanted football equipment then Dave Whiteside wants to hear from you. For the past couple of years Whiteside has done his bit to aid the development of the game in the Philippines by providing boots, shinguards, coaching cones and the like to teams in the City of Cebu. "I'm looking for equipment that is still in good condition but no longer used," Whiteside said. "In the Philippines football is seen as a way of improving kids' social wellbeing but most of the parents are not in a position to buy proper gear, and the clubs have very limited resources as they are all run by volunteers. The more equipment I can supply the more teams they can put on the park, from under-6's up through to adults." For further information on how you can donate equipment for use in the Phillipines contact Dave on 9381 3444 (home) or 9343 5171 (work).

Balcatta Soccer Club is an emerging star in the development of junior football players in Perth's northern suburbs. The club is all about Development, helping players rise beyond their comfort zone, (eg. Those players who are selected for the U15's Premier Division Academy Squad will also be given the opportunity to push their way into the U/18's Saturday Squad, if they are capable).

Already in 2007, 4 players from the U/14's winning division 1 side were given the opportunity to train with the U/16's Premier Squad, with 2 of them also getting the opportunity to play with them. This not only meant that those players were given the opportunity to rise to a higher level, but also to have about another 2 hours training per week on top of their own squad training.

Players were also given the opportunity to train an extra night, either 1 on 1, small groups or a whole team, to focus on the player/s individual or team's need, at no extra charge.

Balcatta welcomes you to come along and participate in trials for 1st team selection in 2008. Trials will be held at Graham Burkett Reserve, Grindleford Drive, Balcatta.

The trials will be coordinated by Paul Wozny ( NTC Head Coach).

Trial times and dates are as follows:

U/11's, 12's and 13's: Times will be for all dates 5pm registration, 5.30 start.

U/16's Premier/Division 1 (also depending on whether the right players come along. All 2007 U/15's played in the U/16's competition.)

Having secured their Amateur Premier League Status University of WA Soccer Club requires the services of a suitably qualified coach to re-establish them as one of the states top Amateur clubs. The coach in question should have a strong record in developing young players and experience in coaching at a high level of football. This position would suit a Saturday coach looking to move to Sunday football due to work commitments (or one in need of a change). Applications from qualified Sunday/Amateur coaches looking for a fresh opportunity are also encouraged. UWASC offers the best playing surface and training facilities in amateur football. There is a wealth of untapped talent currently playing in our young, highly successful reserve grade and social grades, that can be used to strengthen an established Amateur Premier side.

In addition to running the Amateur Premier side the coach will be offered the opportunity to coach UWA's Australian University Games squad in the various intervarsity competitions (starting with the Indian Rim University games in December). The University Games competitions will give the coach an opportunity to work with some of the best young talent in state as players from both the Saturday and Amateur competitions come together to represent UWA in state and national competition. The Australian University Games coach will assist in the selection of players to be offered UWA sports scholarships. Taking charge of the Australian University Games side is highly desired but not critical to being appointed as the new coach of UWASC.

The correct candidate should be prepared to work for a friendly, inclusive, family club that has a desire to move forward on and off the pitch. Remuneration will be negotiated based on level of experience, and level of responsibility within the club with support for obtaining additional coaching qualifications also on offer. Applicants do not need to have any existing links to UWA. All applications should be forwarded to neil@saros.com.au. The deadline for applications is October 27th.
