Born into a family steeped in football tradition, Miller played for Australia twice in a highly successful career. Having come up through the junior ranks at Spearwood Dalmatinac he was playing first team football at the age of 17. In early 1993 Miller joined Perth Italia and, following a brief loan to S-League club Sembawang, helped the Blues win the First Division championship, Top Four title and Cup trifecta.
Part of the Perth Kangaroos side that stormed their way to the 1994 S-League title without loss, Miller marked his State League return by scoring twice in Perth's Cup final win over Stirling Macedonia. Morwell Falcons had by this stage become interested and in October 1994 Miller stepped out for the first time as a national league player. Over the course of two seasons he made almost 50 appearances for the club where his lightning pace down the left was a key feature of the Falcons attack.
The lure of the National Soccer League's newest addition - Perth Glory - was too strong for Miller to ignore. His hometown debut arrived against UTS Olympic in October 1996 and two months later he struck a memorable last-minute winner against Melbourne Knights. His lightning pace and close control lead to trials in the Netherlands and England during the off-season that followed.
A Glory ever-present in 1996/97, Miller would miss just five games during his first four seasons at his hometown club. He shared the Most Glorious Player award with New Zealand import Danny Hay and and won outright the Supporter's Player of the Year in 1997/98, and became the first Glory player to 100 game by turning out against Marconi Stallions in February 2000. Miller feaured prominently when Glory finished top of the table in 1999/00, only to lose the Grand Final in a penalty shoot-out to Wollongong Wolves.
A superb start to 2000/01 led Miller to wearing the green and gold of Australia for the first time against Colombia in a January 2001 friendly. And three months later he was part of the Socceroos side which set a new world record by thrashing American Samoa 31-0 in a World Cup qualifier. Miller was a vital member of the Glory side that topped the table in 2001/02 before again finishing on the losing Grand Final team, this time to Sydney Olympic.
Miller celebrated becoming the first Glory player to make 200 appearance by helping the side to a 2-0 Grand Final win over Olympic Sharks in June 2003, and a few weeks later collected his second Most Glorious Player award. A persistent hip injury limited him to only a handful of games in 2003/04, when Glory again topped the table then defeated Parramatta Power in the last ever NSL Grand Final.
With the national competition in hiatus, Miller returned to Cockburn City for a winter of State League football. Having battled injury throughout the inaugural A-League season, Miller made his final appearance for Glory against Newcastle Jets in February 2006 before bowing out of professional football after 276 games. In his final playing season Miller helped Sorrento win the 2006 State League championship.
