20th
of April 2003 - S.L.A.M. Gig at the Newport:
Retracide
recently played at the S.L.A.M festival at the Newport, Fremantle.
Amongst many solid acts Retracide was the most solid, they were
more solid than solid, resembling the Great Wall of Solidness. Retracide
also won over one enthused fan who took over the dance floor with
his wheelchair.
The 'cide
played to about 350 plus people. The set list was shortened due
to the next band starting ahead of schedule. Arachnacidal a new
track missed out due to the untimely circumstance. The next band
was average although they were never going to be able to compete
with the likes of Retracide.
The boys
fooled everyone when Daniel Tapper played the intro to "birds
in the sky" before breaking out into "Fortify". Everyone
was pleased that the guys were only taking the piss.
The set
list began with Fortify featuring the limited special collectors'
edition birds in the sky intro. Tapper was in his prime the new
intro gave the song a new lease of life. Without messing about it
was straight into burning up followed by an
adventurous day at the races.
The crowd
was well pleased with broken down but disappointed when the boys
refused to play spinal taps 'big bottom'. Ben Marshall threatened
to walk off stage but was warmed back when Tapper pleaded with him
to 'Stay Forever'.
Frizz
didn't seem to worried about the ordeal, Aaron looked ready to pull
out the 'double barrel' earlier than expected
so they did.
It was all over after that, everyone else packed up shop.
