A Basic Outline For A Ritual

This kind of ritual should be performed one ones own. So solitary witches use this kind of outline.

A. Ritual Preperation

  1. Know the purpose
  2. Write the ritual so you know what you are doing
  3. Gather the tools necesary
  4. Prepare the body
  5. Prepare the area

B. Open the Circle

  1. Find the North compass point
  2. Set up the Door Between the Worlds
  3. Call the Watchtowers/Elemental Quarters

C. Invocation to the Deities

  1. Aligh self with deity
  2. Invoke the deities

D. Statement of Purpose

E. Actual Working or Act of Honour
Working

  • Complete the preliminary manual/visual task
  • Raise the Energy
  • Focus the Energy
  • Ground the Energy

Honouring

  • Complete the preliminary manual/visual task
  • Dedicate teh cakes and wine
  • Partake the cakes and wine

F. Meditation

G. Thanking the Deities

H. Closing the circle

  1. Mentally and verbally close the circle
  2. Physically close the circle
  3. Clean up which includes disposal, washing of plates and glasses and putting away tool and so forth

Each coven or religion has their own way of doing things including rituals.

Preparation for a Ritual
List for tools and items (remember this is a BASIC ritual)

  • Two candles
  • A gold candle
  • The four elemental candles
  • Your athame or wand
  • The pentacle
  • The broom
  • Wine and cakes
  • A dedication gift
  • Robe
  • Whatever you need to open your circle
  • A mat or rug to kneel/sit on

 

Opening the Circle

Find your Northen point and enter the circle. Use a knife to part the door and step in, close the door behind you! The rituals change now, this is where they always split up, calling the Watchtowers. Do it the way you usually "cast a circle" because you are comfortable and familiar with it. Otherwise start with East, call the Quarter. Using your own words is best but I'll give you a general example:

Ye Guardians of the Watchtowers of the East, I hear you, calling you now to guard and aid me in this rite in this circle.

Also the reference to the representation for that compass point is used, e.g air for east etc...
To that to each quarter changing the words to fit the Quarter. While saying it you should imagine the pentagram in blue flames. After calling the quarters face the centre of the circle and say in some words that you are now Between the Worlds.

Invocation and Alignment with the Deities
As a solitary you are your own Priestess or Priest, so you will meld your energy with that of the God/ess.

I, ..... alighn myself with Isis
or
I am in perfect alignment with ...

After that follows

In this night and in this hour Icall upon the ancient power of (name of deitie)

The Statement of Purpose
Give the cakes and wine, or whatever you choose and place it in the centre of the circle, it is an act or honour. Stand above the cup of liquid and imagine the god and goddess joining. You then take some of the offering and leave the rest as an act of honour. Then say something along the lines of:

On this eve of the Samhain celebration I have come to honour those that have passed beyond the veil...

Then state exactly your purpose.E.G

I have come this night to bring health to Jane Edney who has been diagnosed with Leukemia...

Thank the deities (I'm sure you can do that yourself), and here comes the annoying part; clean up!
