Fairies Page!!!

Fairies, the magical creatures who are always all around us. Its hard to believe but its true. In folklore, a fairy is a preternatural creature that lives on the Earth and may be either helpful or harmful to humans. Fairies are common to folklore all over the world. They look like humans but are usually much smaller and possess powers of magic, and have wings. They can become invisible at will and thus live unseen in the midst of human society.

Dictionary meaning: noun: small winged legendary being.

According to tradition, some fairies live in a community, called fairyland, which is free of sickness and time, as we know it. A famous Japanese fairy tale illustrates some of the differences. The story goes like this; the fisherman Urashima is beguiled by a beautiful fairy into her underwater kingdom. After spending one night with her, he returns to the upper world and discovers that his family has vanished and he is now an old man.

Faires are known by many different names: Fairies, Fay, Faeries, Wee folk and Fae are some of the most common names. Now people usually think Fairies are cute innocent little creatures which we can’t see. WRONG! Sure some are cute and innocent and help you along through life, but others make people learn the hard way. They never take anything that isn’t necessary but sometimes they make you do things the hard way, or they make you blind to the obvious.
Every had a fight with a close friend but you really have no idea why exactly you were fighting? Or you were fighting for a very stupid reason, that’s the mischievous fairies for ya. Playing games again. They don’t hurt people and sometimes learning the hard way is the better way. Also sometimes they do things so you actually do see the obvious. They are strange little creatures which no one will ever be able to totally figure out. They are unpredictable.

Forest Faeries Forest Faeries fly around day and night and live in the trees, fallen leaves, grass and flowers, and wherever they are safe and feel comfortable.

Fairy call Sit where the cat sits.
Cross your toes.
Close your eyes.
And smell a rose.
Then say under your breath:
"I believe in fairies, sure as death."
Gadflykins! Gladtrypins!
Gutterpuss and Cass!
Come to me fairily
each lad and lass!

POEMS

I am brittle-stemmed and slender,
but the grass is my defender.

On the banks where grass is long,
I can stand erect and strong.

All my mass of starry faces
Looking up from wayside places,

from the thick and tangled grass,
Gives you greeting as you pass

Poem by Valerie Worth

They may take strange Forms,
but never say
They can't be seen--
Only they have a way
Of rearranging things,
Of fitting together
Cold lily-silver
Bodies and dark-netted
Dragonfly Wings

A way of using roses
For faces, dew--
Globes for eyes, and
Spider-silks for hair--
Even their clothing of
Faint moonlight is no
Disguise, but just
The common fashion
All the garden wears.
