"MON-oh-KLONE-ee-us"
The Monoclonius (one-horned) was a medium-sized ceratopid about 20 ft. long. Monoclonius had strong limbs and its feet were equipped with small hooves. Such an animal would not be able to run fast and Monoclonius probably dealt with predators using the fight rather than flight strategy.

Collecting the Monoclonius
The Monoclonius is one of the most common sets in the entire line. I think everyone had one as a kid, even if they weren't into Dino-Riders!

The Monoclonius shares the same body mould as the Styracosaurus and Chasmosaurus, with a unique head sculpt. The head has an unadorned bone crest and a single horn sprouting from the nose. The nose and tail sustain the most amount of wear from play, and it can be hard to find a loose copy in mint condition. The head/tail swinging action can also be broken without much trouble, but can also be fixed again just as easily.

The accessories for the Monoclonius are fairly easy to come by. The clip-one harness means there is no pesky rubber band involved (yay!). The harness, seat, and guns are large, single-mould pieces, and can be easily spotted. The grey pieces are susceptible to yellowing, so keep them out of the sun.

Mako is a commonly found figure. He is a hammerhead with a Series 1 Rulon body. This body is mostly blue, with a grey torso and yellow markings. Check the common areas for signs of wear.

Monoclonius Notes
The pre-production Monoclonius is a lighter green than the final version, and has much less shading. It also has painted-on eyes, instead of the usual 'bird eyes'.

The instruction booklet shows the seat, seat platform, lasers and tail spikes on a sprue. They actually come packaged loose in the box.

The Real Monoclonius
Monoclonius was a horned dinosaur about 6 metres long. It had a single horn, which grew from its nose, and a bony frill, which extended over its neck. Monoclonius lived about 74 million years ago in North America.
