DIMETRODON

and Full Battle Accessories
1988 DINO-RIDERS Assortment
Series 2, Collection 1 No. 9124
"dye-MET-ruh-don"
The sail-backed Dimetrodon existed just before the age of the dinosaur. His curving, spiked fin (which may have been used to regulate his body temperature) and the fierce rows of teeth on this eleven foot carnivore give a hint of the amazing monsters yet to come.

Collecting the Dimetrodon
The Dimetrodon is fairly uncommon, but does pop up every now and then. Boxed is the reccommended way to collect your Dimetrodon, because it has a lot of tiny, unique pieces which can be a pain to collect loose.

The Dimetrodon figure is easy to identify, and can often be found as part of a larger loose collection. Keep an eye out for wear on its snout, tail, claws, and the top of its sail. The areas where the shield clips onto the sail are also prone to wear.

Its accessories are fairly unique and hard to spot amongst a loose collection. The arm and swivels are especially hard to find, and without them the set loses a lot of its play/display value. The silver shield is easily scratched, so handle with care.

Shado has black hair, blue eyes, green shirt, dark green pants, dark green boots, silver belt with red buckle, silver leg bands, silver bracelet and a pastel green collar. Look for signs of wear in the usual spots.

Tyco 1990 Catalogue: Authentic 1/24th scale Dimetrodon is the Dino-Riders' secret infiltrator. Heroic Shado hides behind his huge sail. Features snapping jaws, anti-aircraft seat with twin laser guns and removeable sail shield.

The Real Dimetrodon
The earliest synapsids (also known as mammal-like reptiles) were the pelycosaurs, plodding beasts that wore great sails of skin and bone across their backs. Perhaps the best known of all pelycosaurs was Dimetrodon; like the others, it probably used its sail to vent excess heat on warm days, and to gather rays from the sun when the temperature was cool.
