Wednesday Div 1 (2002)

Regular Season

Being our third season in the top division, we now knew what to expect and the weeknight game became a little easier. The same six teams played off again and we won the majority of our games once again. We again lost a few between the Routers and Generals but this season we lost to the Middies for the first time and in fact lost three times.

We finished the season on top of the table with the Ball Terrors scraping into second. The sleeping giants in the Routers and Generals came third and fourth respectively while the Vets and Middies took home the last two spots.

Finals

We defeated the Ball Terrors comfortably in the second semi-final to advance to yet another grand final. The Routers snuck over the line against the Generals to eliminate them prematurely once again before the Routers became our grand final opponents for the third consecutive year by thrashing the Ball Terrors in the preliminary final.

The Routers batted first and got off to a flier thanks to Blocks and Bomber who got 40 runs in the first pair. We soon knuckled down though to restrict them to 87 - still quite a healthy total. Each one of our pairs fought hard to come out with more than 20 runs and with two balls to go we hit the lead. Gilly #7 blocked the remaining two deliveries to see us to victory. So on our third attempt we had finally won our first top division flag. To top it off Lewie #9 was the player of the grand final, but the best & fairest trophy left the Sultans with Dean Spivey from the Generals winning it this year.
