The withdrawal of the Routers, after their first grand final loss in three seasons, left first division with just five teams. We won all but four games for the season with the Generals and the Ball Terrors inflicting two losses on us each. The Generals looked irresistable at stages during the season while the Ball Terrors had some huge wins over weak sides but some bad losses to good sides like ourselves. One game towards the end of the season stands out in particular. Winning the toss we decided to bat first and steady batting throughout the innings by all of us, saw us post a very competitive 96 runs. Keen to get out of a bit of a form slump and make every post a winner we turned it on in the field and took 32 wickets in total to leave the Ball Terrors on a dismal -68. You can see the scorecard here.
The Ball Terrors finished the season on top of the ladder. We came in second with the Generals and Vets rounding out the four. The Middies were fifth.
We defeated the Ball Terrors comfortably in the second semi-final while the Generals thumped the Vets in the first semi-final. Then, in the biggest upset of the season, the Ball Terrors hit 60 runs off their final 6 overs to beat the Generals narrowly in the preliminary final. So after gearing ourselves up for a hard fought grand final clash against the Generals we were to face the Ball Terrors again.
We won the toss and elected to field and the decision proved worthwhile as we kept their generally successful first pair of Brett and Brendon to just -2. Their remaining pairs didn't fair much better and we were able to restrict them to just 11 runs. Our first pair took us past the score and our remaining pairs guided us to an easy victory. That brought us our second premiership in a row. Corteez #3 was the player of the grand final while Browny #2 won the best & fairest for the season.
