Thursday Div 1 (2007)

Regular Season

Stepping out of Wednesday nights into the unknown of Thursday, we knew not what to expect from our oppositions. We won our first game and lost our next two (one to Stunts and one to Red Wings) before we got regular players back, hit our stride and won all of our remaining games. The highlight of the regular season would have to be our mid-season run of restricting our opposition to a negative score in five out of six games - once against each of Red Wings, Eye of Tiger, Stunts, Tiles Expo and Blinders.

We finished the season in 1st place ahead of Stunts, Eye of the Tiger and Goff who finished 2nd, 3rd and 4th respectively. Chenzo#23 and Browny#1 shared the competition's best & fairest award.

Semi Final

Stunts won the toss and sent us into bat and we didn't start very well, losing wickets we perhaps shouldn't have as Chucky#17 and Browny#1 hit 10 and Howesy#5 and Ranga#35 hit 15 to see us reeling at 25 at the half way mark of our innings. But then the juniors came to the party, Sandhu twins Benzo#22 and Ricardo#24 smashed 36 before Gilly#7 and Chenzo#23 used their momentum to hit 28. In the end we finished on 89. It was always going to be enough as we burnt three of four pair to below zero and their whole team to the tune of -18 for our first website scorecard in a finals match. Through to the Grand Final we go.

Grand Final

After the Stunts went out in the classic straight sets, we were left to take on Eye of the Tiger in the Grand Final. We won the toss, elected to bat and had 20 runs from Chucky#17 and Browny#1 as the opening pair. Howesy#5 and Ranga#35 followed with 24 runs before Ricardo#24 and Simon Grant battled for 8. Gilly#7 and Chenzo#23 then smashed 36 to see us to a comfortable 88 runs. Confident of defending this total, the Sultans dominated from ball one, and smoked the first pair down to -23. The Tigers' second pair made a brief recovery with 13 runs but we switched back on and burnt the last two pairs to record a massive 124 run win and a website scorecard in the process. Chenzo#23 was the player of the grand final in the match that saw the Sultans win their 7th premiership from 11 seasons.
