Fremantle public forum will probe controversial impacts of globalisation

When: Wednesday 7 June, 6.30 pm
Where: The Fremantle Club, 15 Bannister Street, Fremantle

Australians were alerted to worldwide concerns about the global economy when tens of thousands of protesters shut down the Seattle conference of the World Trade Organisation and attacked the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

These issues were also a theme of the May Day rally in Fremantle on Sunday 7 May and Australian activists are now openly planning an Australia-wide protest against a big September meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Melbourne.

The StopMAI (WA) Coalition has organised a public forum to examine some of the harmful effects of global trade policy on our daily lives--and what we can do about it.

Speakers include economist Dr Brian Fleay on the costs of transport and Murdoch University lecturer Peter Vintila on movements for social democracy which are inflicting serious heartaches on governments and corporations around the world.

There will be an admission charge of $5 and refreshments will be available.
