Stop Work to Stop the War

The US military, backed by Britain and Australia have launched an almighty attack on Iraq. Bush is giving the world’s population a "master class" demonstration of how a ruling class or, in this case, one faction of the capitalist class, uses its power to achieve its goals, notwithstanding mass opposition.

As we march here in Perth, Iraqi children and adults are facing the full wrath of 3000 precision-guided bombs, 500 military planes, 5 aircraft-carrier groups, and 250,000 troops.

The $900 million Howard is spending on Australia's 2,000-strong military contribution would create over 11,000 jobs for unemployed youth. All this and only $20 million for the reconstruction of Iraq is coming from Australia.

Bush, Blair and Howard have chosen to walk all over the views of millions of ordinary people who have actively opposed this war for oil. Our leaders have put their imperialist ambitions in the Middle East before the lives of millions of ordinary, innocent people.

Who will be next; Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, Libya? The US administration wants to be the sole Colonial power in the world.

However as the International Herald Tribune said recently "there are two superpowers now, the US and world public opinion" this means there is the US ruling class going to war not just against Iraq but against the great majority of the worlds population. The massive anti-war rallies across the world have delayed this war until today.

Now we have to move into a campaign of industrial action, mass civil disobedience, as well as rallies to stop this war! We need a new workers' party to represent the interests of ordinary people against this war and defend workers interests. Our unions need to break with Labor and get serious about supporting such an alternative.
