Chemical Thief Traps

Chemical tracers such as a fluorescent marker which is invisible in ordinary light, but which becomes visible under the influence of ultraviolet light are of particular value in the investigation of petty theft because the opportunistic or sneak thief is one of the most difficult of offenders to identify. The crime usually involves the theft of money or goods from offices or locker rooms by a person who is an employee of the company, or by a visitor who has legitimate, unchallenged access to the area where the property is located.

With the use of chemical tracers it is possible to positively identify the individual responsible. The evidence obtained by the powders on skin and clothing, is in most cases indisputable.

Tracer chemicals can also be employed in cases of fuel theft where the person responsible is probably an employee of the company concerned.

The use of tracer chemicals will not provide a solution to all instances of petty theft. Careful evaluation and consideration of the circumstances of each individual case is vital and no two situations are ever exactly the same.
