I hardly get any time to play games now due to work, uni, sport
and socialising, but when I do this is what I usually turn to.
My comp: C633Mhz, 128 Meg RAM, 30 gig HDD, Geforce2 MX 32meg.
1nsane - Fun 4wd buggy racing game with many single player
and multiplayer modes to get into. Very nice graphics and very
nice driving model.
Tony Hawk Pro Skating 2 - Lovely lovely skateboarding
game with loads of tricks and combinations and modes to keep you
occupied.
Final Fantasy VIII - Same type of game as Final Fantasy
7 (obviously I guess) - a fantasy role playing game where you
get to control a group of up to 3 characters fighting enemies
and tramping around different locations with big arse weapons
and magic spells. So much to do in this game.
Unreal Tournament - A first person shooter with heaps
of cool weapons, maps, bots and lots of variety/replayability.
Playing the Tremor mod at the moment - go find it from
www.planetunreal.com and look at the mods section.
Soldier of Fortune - First person shooter that is great
fun if you like to see limbs fly and gore everywhere.
Quake series (1,2,3) - Simple to play, doesn't require
much brains to play.
Homeworld - Ultra nice 3d real time space strategy simulation
that is lovely to look at and lovely to play too.
NHL 2000 - One of the best sports games ever made - mainly
because of the rough and tumble and grace of ice hockey is well
replicated in this game.
Tetrinet - 6 player tetris over a network or the internet
WOOHOOO!!! This was a game that could probably take the blame
for a lot of people getting slightly lower marks than what they
should have got at uni.
Tripeaks - One of those Windows card games (in Best of
Entertainment Pack) which keeps your money score. Got up to $50000
in it before Windows deleted my score for some reason *boo hiss*
- one of those games that you turn to when you need a break from
doing those assignments/lab writeups :)
Deus Ex - A brilliant First Person Shooter/RPG/Strategy
game by the folks at ION Storm - much in the same vein as System
Shock 2.
Dark Reign 2 - Obviously the sequel to Dark Reign, the
popular Real time strategy game which followed in the path of
C&C. In full 3d now, and looks really really nice.
Ground Control - By newbies Massive Entertainment, this
game is also a 3d RTS, and also looks and plays awesome.
Septerra Core - A manga type RPG in the same vein as Final
Fantasy 7, with full speech and an isometric viewpoint.
Homeworld - One of the best games ever period. A massive
3d real time strategy game in space which is smooth to use (well...
not on my comp hehe) and beautiful to look at and play. Sorta
waiting to get a new computer so I can play this game properly
(amongst others).
Quake 3 Arena - Neither this nor Unreal Tournament ran
very well on my P200 (this runs heaps worse though)..... not as
good as UT in my opinion but it's by iD, and being much like Quake1
only much nicer to look at and hear, it's a whole heap of fun
as well.
Playstation2 - "Well this isn't a game, and I've
never had a console before, but there's something about this one
- DVD playback, backwards compatibility with Playstation1 - and
since I don't have a DVD player it may be a very worthwhile purchase.
The games that will come out for this one will be outstanding
and numerous - and due to Sony's heavy marketing of their devices
(proof - look at how popular the Playstation was) this one definitely
won't be a flop. "
Hehehe well I wrote that way before the console came out, and
it certainly has been popular ever since it came out a couple
of months ago. $749 was certainly a barrier for many people, and
a lot of people preferred to purchase the remake of the PSX, the
Playstation One (at $174). Games are slowly coming out for it
though, and they definitely are a great improvement graphics wise
over the previous generation consoles.
It will be interesting to see Nintendo's Gamecube (which looks
absolutely hot with most of the best game developers onboard)
and Microsoft's XBox (which also looks very hot - best specifications
out of the lot, and very nice games coming its way too) will turn
out like though.
Giants - A 3rd person action game that has the nicest
graphics and is apparently just plain fun to play.
Duke Nukem Forever - I think a lot of people have been
waiting patiently/impatiently ever since we had so much fun with
Duke3d - waiting since we heard about it using the Quake engine,
then the Quake2 engine, and now the Unreal engine - and now they're
porting over to the more stable Unreal Tournament code. Should
be bucketloads of fun - come git some!
Grim Fandango - Yeah yeah, old game I know... but there's
something about adventure games which I love... and I'm still
wanting to play this game.
Starlancer and Freelancer - A space sim with sweet
looking graphics and the same fun that Wing Commander brought
us - brought to us by Chris Roberts' brother Erin (Chris was at
the helm of the Wing Commanders).
Max Payne - A really cool looking third person action
game with trenchcoat Matrix style action sequences.
Anachronox - A funky looking role playing game which uses
a third person viewpoint I think and which also uses the Quake2
engine (by last memory).
Soul Caliber - Niiiiiiice fighting game.......... only
seen it on Dreamcast though...... if only it was on PC.......
