Toy Run - MRA Melbourne 2002 Managed to get out of bed at 6:45 to get to McDonalds Morwell at 7:15. Great acheivement for me as I really don't like getting up early. Even more surprising, I was the first to get there. Left at 7:30 for Cranbourne with my friends Graeme and Pam, two Harly riders and another two racing style bike riders who just happened to show up while we were there. Pam led the feild as she was still on her L's. By the time we got to Pakenham we had lost the other riders. Just not 'fun enough' I guess. Arrived at Cranbourne around 9:30 and waited for the muster. I watched Pam fill her bike. Ah yes, I remember what it was like on a 250! We had a police escort to the City where we parked up St Kilda Rd, starting at the Arts Centre and working towards St Kilda. We heard via the grape vine that there was about 20,000 bikes in the ride. The organisers broke up the riders into four groups. We were the last to leave being closest to the city. The ride went up St Kilda Rd, around the Sydney Myer Music Bowl, up the tollway, over the West Gate Bridge and ended up at Williamstown. We found a place to park and made our donations. I was happy to find the the Smith Family had a donations box for cash donations. Much better than yesterday. We had lunch at a cafe with four other friends of Graeme. Very nice. We didn't hang around as the wet weather had arrived and we set off for home. A long day, but I had a good time. |
