20,000 km service
Had the tail light assembly replaced under warranty I'm glad to say, but was most disappointed to find the next day as I was about to leave for work, that the metalwork that holds the registration label and rear reflector to be missing!? There's no way that could have fallen off so I can only assume that it wasn't put on where I had the bike serviced.
I rang the dealers and explained my situation only to be told that it must have 'Fallen Off!' Oh sure! I would have lost the licence plate if that was the case. The dealer did a search and couldn't find the metalwork, so they've had to order it in.
Not Happy!
I'm sorry that I didn't notice when I left the dealers, but glad that I noticed next morning. My first stop was VicRoads for a relpacement registration label.
I was wondering what I would have said to the policeman in the police van following me into Churchill if he had stopped me and checked the bike. It would have all have been news to me.

In Pic 1, I've highlighted the cracks with red lines.

In Pic 2, a side view, I've
also highlighted the cracks.
Note 'A' in the diagram it points to where the lower part of the tail light
assembly has lifted clear of the body.
The red circular area shows where the plastic has fallen off completely.

Pic 3 shows an ongoing problem I have with the
left rear tail light. Notice the gap pointed to by the big black arrow.
Notice how on the right hand side there's no such gap?
I've had to repair this problem at least 6 times and even had BMW repair it
last service.
I suspect a bit of loctight may be in order.
The indicator assembly is only held on to the exposed shaft by a 'U' clamp strap.
Must investigate this further.
