Left Rear Indicator Faulty
Two days after the service I noticed that the left rear indicator was on the move again. Must have a look at that when I get a chance.
The next day, I arrive home form work to find the left rear indicator facing down. "It's slid off again I thought." Nope, much worse. After removing the amber cover I saw that the metal U strip with two screws screwed into some broken off plastic floating around inside. The plastic area that used to be connected to the indicator housing and allowed the screws something to screw into was no longer attached. All that was left was a thin, flat piece of plastic that was supposed to give some support.
There was no way I could reattach the indicator by its native method. What I did was run two thin strips of Gaffa tape around the outside of the indicator housing where it slides onto the shaft. Half on the shaft and half on the indicator housing. I then used a metal hose clamp for some real support .
I rang BMW Saturday morning and asked if my old tail light assembly was still around as I thought I might be able to use the old indicator housing. Well I was wrong What BMW did was to only replace the tail light assembly and reattach the original indicators. Aha! That's why it fell off! After a bit of a talk I was able to determine that the indicator is covered by warranty, so I will be able to get a replacement.
