9 day trip to Yulara - Part 2

I was most dismayed and embarrassed to find that my Credit card was declined when I went to pay for the shopping today. I'm sure there's enough money in my account, what's going on?

I checked my account status over the Internet and found someone had taken $500 from my account leaving me with no funds, no idea who. The next day I found another $122 removed from my account! I'm in the red now. What's going on? Is this the dreaded banking fraud happening in front of my eyes? Sure looked like it.

As anyone who has an Internet account knows there are three steps in determining who has taken your money:

  1. First there is a discrepancy between the amount in your account and the available balance
    .
  2. A day later the transactions appear as line items in the Transaction Listing report for your account. At this stage the only identification of the person taking the money is the text 'TRANSACTION'

  3. Another day later and all is revealed.

I found out that it wasn't Internet Banking fruad, although not too far away from it. I found it was Hertz Rentals. They had finally worked out what the damage was to the hire car they had provided me and had just taken the money without informing me.

First thing Tusday morning I telephone Hertz and am told "Sure it's us! We had a bit of trouble getting the money though, we had to make two withdrawals!" Wonderful. I asked the manager if he had thought to send me the repair quote FIRST, before taking the money. "Oh, we're a bit behind in the paperwork." Seems not to far behind to take my money without permission.

Not happy!

Seems that's the way business is done these days.

Beware folks ... beware!

You wouldn't have known that a Camel landed on the front of the car would you?

I guess this is the damage caused by the Camels jaw as its head fell across the passenger side windscreen.

You have to look really closely to spot the damage in this picture.
You can just make out a circular distortion around the washer nozzle where the metal was pushed in.
