AeroFlow Hand Guards

I finally fitted the AeroFlow Hand guards that I bought last year.

My daughter looked strangely at me when I asked if I could borrow her hair dryer. I explained that it's too cool now to fit the sticky stuff properly, so I need to warm some of the parts up.

I washed the areas that I was going to stick the Dual-Lok strips to, and then further cleaned them with the provided alcohol wipes. Fitting wasn't very difficult except for the right hand side, because I had an extra swith block installed for the fog lights, the fittings at the bottom had to be different. This involved cutting/removing some of the lower mounting area of the hand guard so that it sat flat. That done, all went smoothly.

Rode about 150 kilometres today, travelling up to Wallhalla and riding late back from Yarragon to get a bit a chill happening.

I tried to convince myself that the handguards were doing their job, but still ended up putting the heated grips on the first notch. I wondered how much air was actually being deflected. A rough test indicated I didn't have all that much calm air behind them. As a final test I rode home from the local shopping centre to home without gloves (Yes, I was careful) and found there was heaps of air movement.

I don't know. I'll stick with them for the moment until I decide they really do something.

I need to make another modification soon as the bottoms of the hand guards touch the tank at the extreme left and right positions. I can lock the steering without the guards touching the tank, but its the extra bit that's causing the trouble.

Do I just remove them or modify them? Time will tell.

P.S. I had a look at the AeroFlow website in the U.S.A. and noticed they don't make them anymore. Using Google I was able to reach an old archived page. I noticed that the displayed hand guards have a metal strip that runs around the edge, not so on mine, just perspex.

Maybe the hand guards were just a money spinner for AeroFlow for riders with cold hands? Hmm, am I being to cynical?
