New Boots
Well it's new boots time.
I started off with a pair of Alpine Stars. I wore them out, so I ordered a new pair and the wait was unbeleivable. I gave up waiting and bought a pair of BMW Contour Plus boots. A few weeks later the Alpine Star boots showed up, so I didn't use them until I wore out the BMW boots.
As a general comparison, the BMW boots are a better product. More solid, warmer, completely waterproof and very comfortable.
I completely wore the boots out top and bottom, but they still feel great on your feet. I was very, very surprised to find out how waterproof they are. Both of the Alpine Star boots developed leaks. The BMW boot still doesn't leak. My impression of the boot shot up when I walked around Uluru in the rain. I was walking in water a few centimetres from the top of the boot and I still didn't get wet. Maybe they should call them gumboots?
The Alpine Star boots use a zipper and velcro to close up the boot. The BMW boots uses laces and velcro. The surface area of velcro on the BMW boots would have to be twice the area of the velcro on the Alpine Star boots. As a result, if you walk up stairs, etc, the velcro lets loose on the Alpine Start boots, not so with the BMW boots.
General wear trends are as follows:

Because of the placement of the gear change lever (it's low), every boot suffered this sort of damage.

I wore the boots everywhere, so no wonder I wore the soles out.

The stitching on the back of the boot came apart
as can be seen above.
This may be a result of using my feet to take the boots off instead of pulling
them off.
I went online and checked out the boot range, and as expected, the Contour Plus boot is no longer part of the range. I guess I'll just have to show up at a showroom and purchase what's available.
P.S. Stopped in at BMW Southbank and checked the boots on display. I was quite happy to see the Contour Plus boot still on display but not happy that I couldn't find the right size. The closest they had was a size below. I asked at the service desk about the boot and after a bit of frantic searching was told they didn't have any boot the size I wanted and that the range has been discontinued. Great! I'm not happy with the new style of boot. Yes, I know, I'm fussy. I really liked the way you could use laces to exactly fit the shape of your foot. The new boot uses a long zipper, a backward set methinks.
I rang Moto One and found that the have a Countour Plus boot but a size larger than what I need. Not looking good at all.
