Lake Glenmaggie
As happens from time to time, the water level in lake Glenmaggie falls to the point where you can some exploring an the dried up lake bottom.
The water situation is very bad at the moment and that may explain the drastic drop in water level, but it seems that once a decade the water recedes this far.
The time seemed right so I set off and there it wasn't, the water that is, just a dried up lake bed. Before the lake was flooded there were farms and roads, etc.
These pictures are taken on the road that used to run from Glenmaggie to maybe Heyfield. As you can see the road and the bridges have survived remarkably well.

Not a full on bridge, just a creek jumper.

From the opposite side.
I wonder why the remains of the trees are all the same height?

This is the bridge. You can just make out the remaining lake water in the background.
The road continues on and then stops. In the past I've just turned around, this time I kept going and did some off-road riding. The only unfamiliar experience I had was riding in reasonably deep loose sand. Felt rather uncomfortable in places, but I made it back to the sealed road without becoming bogged or falling off. Not something I'd do every day, but then again, this land doesn't appear every day either.
