Traffic Control
Once again I have been called on by the club to partcipate in Traffic Control. The event was the annual Santa parade put on by Stocklands.
I was assigned to the intersection of Grey St and Franklin St. I had to stop people entering Franklin St. I had been assigned a U.H.F. radio but that was an exercise in futility. All I could hear was white noise (where is that squelch control?) and the people I tried to raise never heard me. Technology's great when it works.
You could see the desperation on the peoples faces when they tried to turn into Franklin St and realised that they weren't able to. Some irate people no doubt. Most people were just after a place to park close to the route being taken by Santa so the children could see and maybe collect a lolly or two.
From a traffic control point of view, cars and pedestrians, especially children should not share the same road. You try explaining that to an irate parent.
The Taxi drivers weren't happy as was the LV Bus lines driver trying to pick up his patrons for Moe.
I only made one mistake and that was to not take ahat, as it was quite warm in the sun. In fact next time I'm going to take an umberella!
Next week is the annual Toy Run. I'm helping out with that too! I'll keep you informed.
