New Boots

I finally decided to replace my motorcycle boots. They had done their job and were worn out.

My boot of preference was the BMW Contour Plus boot. The feature I liked most about the boot was the lace up style. Not really a fan of the zipper. In BMW's wisdom, the boot has been deleted from the catalogue. I must be the kiss of death or someting. First the Cruiser and now the boots.

The last pair I purchased were probably the last set of size 47 in Australia, as I rang every BMW dealer and found that they are nearly a forgotten item.

I was passing through Melbourne today and stopped at Southbank Motorcycles. Last time I was was in the shop they had a pair of 48's and was toying with the idea of buying them and using thicker socks. Alas, they were gone, with only 41's on display.

I bit the bullet and purchased a pair of 'Pro Touring' boots.

I think I adjusted them a little tight, as by the time I arrived home the tops of the boots were hurting my shin. Maybe I have to wear myself in?

I wrecked the Contour Plus boots after an unplannned incident in Arkansas last year. I was riding down the road in a sort of side-saddled sitting position with my right leg dangling just above the road. The road was concrete and unfortunately the edges of the slabs were not quite in alignment. The slab I was riding onto was lightly higher than the slab I was on. The suspension took the rise, alas the boot didn't and the inside side of the boot impacted with the slab nearly ripping my ankle off. After the pain subsided I thought I got away with the incident lightly. In a way I did, the ankle/foot was just fine, but, the leather was split for about two centimetres. Not happy. In the time since then the split has become larger but was still waterproof.

I've been more careful since then.

Now to replace the helmet.

I rang BM Motorcycles to arrange for a service andd found their waiting list to be quite long. I had been warned a month ago that the queue was long, but it's really long now as the BMW dealer in Albury/Wodonga has closed. Oh well. I'm in the queue for the 9th of May and now just have to wait my turn.
