I had another 'first' riding to Loch Sport. I had
to switch to the reserve tank just before reaching the South Gippsland Highway
using the back road from Rosedale. I guessed that I'd make the distance and
continued on my way. I could see the 80 kph sign when the petrol gave out. I
rolled the bike about a bit to get the last of the petrol but that didn't last
long. By the time I reached the 60 kph sign I was just rolling and stopped a
short distance after that. I pushed the bike to the Shell station - only about
5 minutes, could have been much worse. Well, 191 km to a tank, I'll have to
study my maps a bit more from now on.
The lady at the Shell told me that there is a pattern of people filling up and
driving off before paying, so the pump is turned off. You have to go inside
and ask for petrol. Lovely world eh?
I hit the dust again at Iguana Creek on my way to Dargo. I'd spotted the sign and wanted to take a picture of it. So I slowed down and headed for a road that led into a paddock. I misjudged how slippery the grass and the round stones were and bang, down again. I lay where I fell for a bit and felt no pain. That's a good sign I thought and slowly got to me feet. I can see why the mirrors and controls are designed the way they are: They give way when you crash and don't break. No damage to either me or the bike and continued on my trip to Dargo and had a welcome cup of coffee and standing next to the cast iron stove to warm up. The trip home was cold. I stopped at Sale to warm up. Must take a backup pair of pants and gloves!
