The Ju87r was the long range version of the Ju87b.
An additional fuel transfer system was fitted and new fuel tanks were installed in the wing. The outer wing attachment points were modified so that 300l fuel tanks could be carried instead of bombs.
They were intended for anti-ship attacks, and proved very effective during the fights in Scandinavia.
The out-of-sequence R-designation stood for `Reichweite', range.
