Ásatrú (Ah-sah-tru) is a complete and balanced Polytheistc Spritual and Magical system based around the Northern European pagan traditions including, Anglo-Saxon, Frisian, Germanic, Dutch, Norse and Icelandic. Ásatrú first appeared in Australia in 1929 in Melbourne, although was outlawed during World War II. It came back to Australia in the 1970s, however, until the 1990s it was extremely quiet publically.

Ásatrú worship (thoth) is not restricted to their Gods and Goddesses, but includes honouring of land spirits and also of their Ancestors. Their celebrations tend to be broken into two types, blots and sumbels. A blot is a rite specific to blessings or sacrifice. A sumbel (also know as a symbel) is a rite in which toasts are drunken to the gods, heroes, forebears and whoever or whatever is worthy.

They believe the goal of living is to lead a worthwhile and useful life. As part of the Ásatrú believe system, the Ásatrúar subscribes to the nine noble virtues:

bulletCourage
bulletTruth
bulletHonour
bulletFidelity
bulletDiscipline
bulletHospitality
bulletIndustriousness
bulletSelf-Reliance
bulletPerserverance

Their group structure is very tribe or family orientated and there is an emphasis on learning crafts in order to better oneself. Some learn 'Viking' crafts whilst others concentrate on crafts that are more relevant to modern society.
