Jobs for September
This really is the busy time of the year for Bonsai enthusiast. So much needs to be done in a very short space of time. One of the many jobs is attending to your deciduous trees, so that you get the best out of time in the shortest time. The following tips will definitely help.
CONIFERS
This is a prime time to re-pot conifers. Unlike deciduous trees, they benefit from liquid fertiliser (fish emulsion) for a couple of weeks prior to potting. Water with a seasol solution right after repotting.
DECIDUOUS TREES
Because of the mild winter we experienced this year, a lot of deciduous trees are already shooting new buds. NOTE: While the shooting process is in progress please do not repot your trees. Wait until the new leaves are open and are changing colour to a deeper green (maturing). Avoid bare rooting, as the tree is very vulnerable at this stage of the proceedings.
RAMIFICATIONS
In the book “Bonsai Today”, you will have seen beautiful ramifications of the twigs and branches on the deciduous trees displayed.
Now is the perfect time to start achieving this goal. The process is the “clip and grow” method which results in close internodes and small leaves. If you are careful and pay attention to what your tree is doing, this can all be accomplished in one growing season, provided the tree is of sufficient maturity and the following method is used.
New Buds will shoot When the buds turn
from the base of the into twigs, remove growth after
stem of the remaining the first two leaves form and
two leaves before leaves three & five unfold.

IMPORTANT:
This process will happen very quickly and if you don’t watch your tree carefully, you will miss the bus.
