The Present and Future — Back to Teaching Computing

Recently we commenced a new venture — the 'domestic delivery of digital dexterity'. We are now 'Clancie Specialised Services', a Geelong-based organisation offering short course computer tuition. Our lessons are taught in small classes (2-4) or we offer one-on-one training. We aim to help those who have a computer and would like to learn how to use it more effectively, and those are thinking of buying a computer and want to see what they might be able to do with it. We offer a wide range of education programmes. We have a particular interest in encouraging two underrepresented groups — women and seniors — to make greater use of computers. Classes range from very elementary for novices and beginners through intermediate to advanced. We aim to help those who have been bypassed by technology to catch up a little. See the range of classes that we are offering.

The Big Trip

Commencing 8 June, 2003, my husband, Barrie Hesketh, and I spent three months travelling around Australia, living in a caravan. We missed the view from our front window at home, shown as the background to this page. We didn’t see any sunsets that compared with this one. We spent most of our time 'up North'. This web site was created so our family and friends could follow our progress. It was updated daily and detailed our progress and experiences as we travelled. We plan to take further journeys in the future. See where we went and what we did.

The Past

Prior to my retirement from academia in 1995 my main area of research related to gender issues in computing. After retirement I spent the next three years completing my PhD, incorporating my gender research and a new (to me) area of research, personality types of people in computing.
